Job Purpose
We are seeking a QC Lead Inspector to join our Surface team in Altons, Aberdeen, with the primary responsibilities of providing QC leadership, support, and advice to the Base Operations and Offshore Service project teams, while fostering a positive QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental) culture.
- Preparing and implementing Inspection Plans ensuring compliance with industry and client requirements.
- Supporting teams with improvement initiatives, employing methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, and Root Cause Analysis to enhance safety, quality, and cost efficiency.
Main Tasks
The QC Lead Inspector will oversee the following responsibilities:
Cooperation & Coordination
- Coordinate daily QC department tasks with:
- Workshop Manager
- Planning Department
- Project teams
- Align resources with work schedules and requirements
Conformance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all equipment inspections comply with:
- TechnipFMC Technical Specifications
- Engineering Drawings
- Product Specifications
- Purchase Order requirements
- Lead specialised, complex inspections, providing advice on:
- Tools and inspection criteria
- Inspection strategy
- Verify support documentation in accordance with TechnipFMC Technical Specifications, Engineering Drawings, Product Specifications, and Purchase Order requirements
Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) & Inspections
- Conduct NDE tests in line with company standards
- Inspect premium thread connections, including :
- VAM Top connectors
- Seal areas
- Torque shoulder surfaces ensuring compliance with:
- OEM acceptance criteria
- TechnipFMC standards
- Maintain an auditable trail of records, ensuring compliance with Quality Management System requirements
- Process all QC-related transactions correctly within the SAP Database
Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions
- Raise and maintain control of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) by interfacing and collaborating with:
- Workshop
- Engineering
- Field services
- Resolve quality issues, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and verify corrective actions
- Lead a complex 8D RCA investigation
- Attend project and kick-off meetings to:
- Provide input on feasibility and scope
- Present technical requirements or advanced measurement methods
Technical Roles & Compliance
- Witness and sign off gas pressure tests
- Resolve TechnipFMC Inspection (TPI) findings and concerns
- Handle ECN (Engineering Change Notice) processing
- Liaise with the QHSE Manager on quality-related issues
- Manage and maintain inspection tool calibration, provide recommendations for new equipment

Standardisation & Inspection Processes
- Develop and review quality control procedures
- Advise on packaging contents for:
- Certificate of Conformity (CoC)
- Material Review Board (MRB) packs
- Prepare from complex, critical, or high-risk items for presentation to customers and TPIs
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Compliance
- Execute work in compliance with applicable HSE requirements
- Proactively identify and mitigate HSE hazards
- Attend mandatory HSE training
- Use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Training & Mentorship
- Coach and mentor QC team members
- Build cross-functional relationships with stakeholders

About the Role
The post-holder will primarily function as QC Lead Inspector alongside the Surface team at Altens, Aberdeen. This role emphasizes quality leadership, process compliance, and continuous improvement in the Oil & Gas industry.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Quality Assurance
- Set the QC strategy for the team.
- Ensure adherence to standards with industry and client requirements.
- Advise teams on technical standards, tools, and processes.
Compliance Management
- Prepare and implement inspection plans in alignment with:
- TechnipFMC specifications
- API 6A, API 6AR, API Q2, and ISO 9001
- Audit and verify records of all quality activities.
- Escalate and resolve TPI findings/concerns.
Inspection & Non-Destructive Testing
- Conduct specialised inspections of high-risk parts including:
- VAM Top connectors
- Seal quality checks
- Process SAP-related QC transactions accurately.
- Liaise with stakeholders and ensure record maintenance of inspections.
Training, Mentorship & Improvement
- Coach team members in adherence to QC processes.
- Assist in developing QC-handbooks and training sessions.
- Lead internal audits and promote continuous improvement through Lean, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis.
Performance and Proactive Leadership
- Identify non-conformities and propose corrective actions.
- Present technical findings to high-level management, engineers, and clients.
Specialized Expertise Required
- Experience in Oil & Gas equipment, mainly wellhead and pressure control.
Requirements
Knowledge & Formal Education
- Completed secondary education
- Technical familiarity with:
- API 6A / API 6AR, API 6A, API Q2 standards
- ISO 9001 requirements
Experience
- Proven experience in a QC Lead or Senior QC role (preferably in Oil and Gas – Wellhead & Pressure Control equipment)
- TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE OF INDUSTRY STANDARDS: API 6A, API 6AR, API Q2, ISO 9001
- With Six Sigma, Lean, Root Cause AnalysisMethodologies
- Familiarity with NDE: MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) & LPI (Leak Testing or Liquid Penetrant Inspection)
- ERP administration (SAP experience) beneficial but not mandatory if technical background clearly involves SPD records in ERP database.

Certifications (Desired)
- ISO 9712 – NDT Level 2 (SNT certified preferred)
- NSI-2 DrillString manufacture Inspection equivalent.

- Ability to avoid internal standards non-compliance, keeping industry best practices and policy compliance in focus.
- Technical expertise in Oil & Gas drilling & production equipment (advantageous).
