QC Technician

QC Technician – Quality Control Microbiology

Location

Pirbright, UK Fully onsite, fixed-term contract until end of December 2027.

About the Role

We are seeking a QC Technician to join our Quality Control Microbiology team at our Pirbright site. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in microbiology, gained through either education or professional experience, to develop their skills within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment.


Key Responsibilities

All aspects of in-process testing where results are used to support batch releases to required specifications, including:

  • Receipt and analysis of test samples.

Test execution supporting:

  • Site utilities
  • Environmental monitoring programs (e.g., microbial count, endospores, endotoxin testing, conductivity, and TOC analysis)

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Completing laboratory documentation and data entry accurately
  • Supporting quality processes, including:
    • Deviations
    • CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions)
    • OOS investigations (Out of Specification)
    • Change controls

Laboratory & Equipment Management:

  • Maintaining SOP (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Preserving laboratory equipment, reagents, and consumables

Regulatory & Safety Compliance:

  • Ensuring adherence to:
    • GMP standards
    • Biosafety protocols
    • HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) requirements

Initiative & Continuous Improvement:

  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality Control function.

Sterilisation & Waste Management:

  • Sterilisation of equipment
  • Safe removal of waste from restricted areas

Requirements

Education & Background

  • A background in Microbiology or a related scientific discipline, attained through:
    • Academic education
    • University studies
    • Practical laboratory experience

Experience

  • Applied laboratory experience, ideally within:
    • Microbiology
    • Pharmaceuticals
    • Biotechnology
    • Another regulated environment

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Knowledge of GMP/GxP standards or a willingness to develop in a regulated setting.
