QHSE Director

Location: Kent/UK | Type: Full-time | Permanent | Hours: Monday–Friday (flexible for operational needs)

About the Role

We are recruiting for a QHSE Director to provide Group-wide leadership, governance, and accountability for quality, health, safety, and environmental performance across all businesses in the UK. This role reports directly to the CEO/Group Managing Director and plays a critical role in shaping and embedding best practice throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and ongoing review of the Group QHSE strategy, governance framework, and annual improvement plan
  • Lead and develop local QHSE team members, ensuring alignment with Group standards, controls, and reporting expectations
  • Oversee QHSE due diligence and integration for acquisitions, including risk assessment and improvement actions
  • Oversee integrated management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) for compliance, certification, and audit readiness
  • Review incidents, trends, non-conformances, and audit findings, ensuring robust root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned are implemented

Requirements

Must:

  • Demonstrate proven senior QHSE leadership experience in a multi-site, technical/engineering/construction/infrastructure/specialist services environment
  • Generate improvement in QHSE culture, standardised frameworks, and embedding practical operational processes
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel nationally
  • Possess a deep understanding of:
    • UK QHSE legal/regulatory requirements (health/safety, environmental compliance, incident reporting)
    • Integrated management systems, particularly ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001
    • Assurance/auditing, root cause analysis, risk management, and performance reporting
  • Hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent higher-level health and safety qualification

Desirable:

  • Environmental and quality qualifications or relevant professional development
  • Relevant ISO certification audit training experience
  • Chartered status (or progression towards chartered membership with an appropriate QHSE professional body)
