QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental) Advisor

Position Overview

  • Job Title: QHSE Advisor
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Salary: £50,170.74 per annum
  • Working Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
  • Location: London / Hybrid

The Impact of This Role

As a QHSE Advisor at Riverside Property Services, you will support the Head of QHSE in developing and implementing strategies for health, safety, and environmental sustainability. Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and resolving health, safety, and environmental problems, and proposing solutions across the organisation.
  • Collaborating with employees to minimise workplace risks and reduce environmental impact.
  • Ensuring proper risk management while improving overall health, safety, and sustainability performance.

  • Strategic & Policy Support: Assist with policy implementation, legislative compliance, and sustaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Compliance & Audits: Conduct workplace audits, investigate incidents (reporting to external authorities under RIDDOR), and implement corrective actions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Advise managers, employees, and unions on health, safety, and environmental matters, while ensuring alignment with Equality and Diversity policies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use data analysis to address health and safety trends and enhance operational excellence.

Core Responsibilities

Strategy & Development

  • Implement health, safety, and environmental improvement frameworks.
  • Monitor legislative changes and keep records of company procedures up to date.
  • Champion sustainability best practices across Riverside operations.

Service Delivery

  • Compliance & Status Reporting

    • Ensure operational teams adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies.
    • Maintain up-to-date records, including accident statistics and audits, often involving travel across Southern regions.
  • Incident Handling

    • Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents, produce reports, and implement preventative measures.
    • Ensure proper reporting to external bodies as required by RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).
  • Risk Assessment & Audits

    • Conduct independent health & safety audits and recommend remedial actions.
    • Review and refine risk assessments with managers, supervisors, and trade union safety representatives.

  • Team Support
    • Provide referential guidance to employees on health and safety best practices.
    • Ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 45001 (Safety), and ISO 14001 (Environment) standards.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent) with relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in audit and inspection processes, rule-making, and action plan development.
  • Experience with health and safety management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Competence using IT platforms, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Desirable Skills

  • Membership of a recognised professional body, such as:
    • IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health)
    • IIRSM (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health)
  • Qualified Internal Auditor for standards (e.g., ISO 9001/14001/45001).
  • IEMA Environmental Management Certificate.
  • Professional certification in occupational safety.
