QHSE Technician
Department: Operations / QHSE
Reports To: Operations Manager
Job Summary
The QHSE Technician is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems. The role ensures compliance with legal requirements, industry standards, and company policies while promoting a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, workplace safety, and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Quality
- Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) in line with standards such as ISO 900, BRC, FSC.
- Monitor quality performance indicators and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct internal audits and coordinate external certification audits.
- Investigate quality-related issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Ensure customer requirements and quality objectives are met.
Health & Safety
- Develop and implement occupational health and safety programs in compliance with legal regulations and company standards.
- Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety inspections.
- Lead incident and accident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Promote safety awareness through training, toolbox talks, and campaigns.
- Monitor safety performance and prepare regular reports.

Environmental
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards such as ISO 14001.
- Develop environmental management programs to minimize environmental impact.
- Monitor waste management, emissions, energy consumption, and sustainability initiatives.
- Conduct environmental audits and assessments.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities regarding environmental matters.
Compliance & Auditing
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and industry requirements.
- Manage certification and surveillance audits for ISO standards.
- Maintain documentation, records, policies, procedures, and reports.
- Coordinate management reviews and compliance assessments.
Training & Leadership
- Develop and deliver QHSE training programs for employees and contractors.
- Mentor and support all staff on QHSE matters.
- Foster a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
- Lead QHSE teams and coordinate with cross-functional departments.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare monthly and annual QHSE performance reports.
- Maintain QHSE records, permits, licenses, and certifications.
- Analyse trends and recommend improvement actions.
- Report key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior management.
Qualifications
- Qualification in Quality Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Professional certifications such as:
- NEBOSH Diploma / International Diploma
- Lead Auditor ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) (preferred)
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in QHSE management.
- Experience with integrated management systems (IMS).

Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Risk assessment and incident investigation expertise.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QHSE management software.
- Knowledge of relevant local and international regulations.

- Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR)
- Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)
- Audit compliance score
- Number of corrective actions closed on time
- Customer quality complaints
- Environmental incident rate
- Training completion rate
- Certification audit results
Working Conditions
- Office-based.
- May require travel to operational locations.
- Availability for emergency response and incident investigations when required.
General
The post holder may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of the role, as reasonably requested by management, to meet the changing needs of the business.
