Qualified or Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner
Opportunity for Trainee or Qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) – Cardiothoracic Team, Brighton
Role: Trainee or Qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) required to join our Cardiothoracic team in Brighton. This role spans the entire cardiac patient journey, from admission through to post-operative care and discharge planning.
About the Role: As an ACP, you will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across multiple clinical settings including admission wards, theatres, cardiac intensive care (CICU), and step-down wards. Responsibilities include clinical decision-making, diagnostics, treatment planning, and holistic care coordination.
This role is ideal for passionate professionals with an interest in cardiothoracic surgery and acute care. You will work closely with experienced ACPs, consultants, anaesthetists, specialist nurses, and allied health professionals, with opportunities for leadership, innovation, and professional development.
- Trainee ACPs:
- Will be supported through an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
- Undertake supervised clinical assessments, developing skills in differential diagnoses and management plans
- Participate in structured placements and academia as part of a nationally recognised MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
- Improve core competencies in diagnostic interpretation, patient deterioration recognition, and multidisciplinary decision-making
- Engage in quality improvement, audit, and evidence-based practice, with opportunities to present work internally and regionally

- Qualified ACPs:
- Operate independently assessing, diagnosing, and managing complex cardiac cases across the full patient pathway
- Provide expert care in CICU and ward settings, overseeing admission-seven discharge processes (including overnight CICU cover)
- Lead ward rounds and apply advanced clinical skills in cardiac patient management
- Offer clinical leadership, mentor trainees and junior staff, and drive service development through research and audit
- Represent the service at local, national, and international forums, championing innovation and best practices
The post starts at Band 7 and progresses to Band 8a upon completion of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice pathway and ACAT competencies.

Key Skills and Attributes:
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and a compassionate approach
- Previous experience in cardiothoracic, surgical, or acute care is beneficial but not required
