Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist – Secure Forensic Service

About the Role

Are you an outstanding Qualified Psychologist with a passion for delivering high-quality care?

We need an experienced Forensic Psychologist, dedicated to helping individuals with complex mental health needs, to join our Secure Forensic service.

Cygnet Bury Hudson delivers a range of secure mental health services for men, including those diagnosed with personality disorder.


The Role & Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Working as part of an established multidisciplinary team (MDT) in a secure ward environment, you will:

  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessments and therapy for adult males detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007).
  • Handle severe and complex mental health conditions, using evidence-based psychological models to guide treatment and risk management.
  • Deliver individual and group interventions, ensuring patients engage actively with their care to monitor treatment outcomes.
  • Offer specialist psychological advice and consultation to support multi-professional collaboration in patient care.
  • Conduct structured risk assessments using professional judgement tools.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, shaping patient care plans.
  • Enhance team capabilities through training, reflective practice, and supervising Assistant Psychologists.

Required Skills & Experience

We are seeking an HCPC registered Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologist – nearly qualified is acceptable – with the following strengths:

  • Clinical experience in psychological therapies such as:
    • Schema Therapy
    • Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT)
    • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Familiarity with working in clinical, forensic, or mental health settings.
  • Experience working with individuals with:
    • Mental illness
    • Personality disorder
    • Complex trauma
  • Strong understanding of risk management, trauma-informed approaches, and formulation skills.
  • Implemented assessments and interventions for troubled behaviours such as:
    • Emotional dysregulation
    • Self-harming
    • Offending behaviours
    • Substance misuse
