About the Role
The Children and Families Department in Nottinghamshire County Council embraces a strengths-based approach—known as "Our Nottinghamshire Approach"—to support children, young people, and families. Tasks include education, safeguarding, and alternative provision compliance.
As the Quality Assurance Alternative Provision Lead Officer, you will ensure that education providers—both commissioned and tuition-based—meet national and local standards. Your work will play a critical role in safeguarding children’s rights to effective education.
Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Assess and safeguard educational and safeguarding efficacy of alternative provision providers.
- Confirm compliance with curriculum delivery, qualifications standards, and safeguarding policies.

Support, Guidance and Escalation
- Advise providers facing operational challenges.
- Escalate serious concerns to the Local Authority (LA) and Ofsted when required.

Data, Reporting & Decision-Making
- Collect and analyse provisional data to craft reports for policy development and strategic decision-making.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work with internal teams, commissioning managers, and external partners to refine best practice in safeguarding and education excellence.

Requirements
Essential
- A degree-level qualification in education, social work, or a related field.
- At least 5 years’ experience in the education sector, with a focus on safeguarding vulnerable children.
- Proven skills in negotiation, evaluation, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working within statutory legislation relevant to alternative education provision.
Desired
- Direct experience ensuring compliance with Ofsted, DFE, or local authority standards.
- Familiarity with Educational Provider Ethics Guides (EPEG) or alternative provision frameworks.
- Strong ability to mentor non-teaching providers and small-scale operations.
