QA Automation Engineer / SDET

London (Victoria) | Hybrid Working (3 days per week onsite)

A globally recognised financial services organisation is looking for a QA Automation Engineer / SDET to join a technology team responsible for customer-facing digital products used by millions of users worldwide.

Working within a modern engineering environment, you'll help deliver high-quality software across a range of protection, travel and customer servicing platforms. This is a hands-on automation role where you'll have the opportunity to influence testing strategy, expand automation coverage and work alongside experienced software engineers in an Agile environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing, developing and maintaining automated test frameworks for web and API applications.
  • Building scalable UI automation using modern tooling, with a strong focus on Playwright.
  • Creating and executing automated and manual test scenarios across sprint and release cycles.
  • Increasing automation coverage by identifying and converting suitable manual test cases.
  • Working closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers and other stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the SDLC.
  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and helping drive faster, more reliable releases.
  • Performing exploratory testing and contributing to continuous improvement of QA processes.
  • Producing clear defect reporting, test evidence and risk assessments within a regulated environment.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years' experience in QA Automation, SDET or Test Automation Engineering roles.
  • Strong experience with Playwright or equivalent modern automation tools.
  • Excellent JavaScript and/or TypeScript skills.
  • Experience automating both UI and API testing.
  • Strong understanding of automation framework design and maintenance.
  • Experience with Git, source control and code review processes.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Nice to Have

  • Experience within Banking, Financial Services, Insurance or other regulated industries.
  • Previous exposure to Selenium, Cypress or WebdriverIO.
  • Experience testing React-based front-end applications.
  • Knowledge of Java/Kotlin backend environments.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilo
