Quality Assurance Officer

Quality Assurance Officer (SEN)

Full-time | £35,000 – £42,000 (depending on experience) Location: Sutherland House School, Bath Street, Nottingham, NG1 1DA

Are you passionate about raising standards and ensuring the highest quality of care for children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)?

Sutherland House School is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Officer to join our supportive, multi-disciplinary team. Working within a school setting with 83 pupils, you will play a critical role in supporting commissioning assurance across Children and Young People’s Services, with a focus on SEND provision.

This position involves collaborating with local authorities, Ofsted, and operational teams to ensure high standards of care, safety, and compliance.


Main Purpose of the Role

To support commissioning assurance across Children and Young People’s Services at Autism East Midlands, with a particular focus on SEND non-maintained independent provision (NMI) and children's services. The role includes:

  • Conducting predominantly desk-based audits, compliance reviews, and data-led monitoring
  • Carrying out provider visits where risks are identified
  • Collaborating with local authorities, school leaders, and operational teams to uphold high-quality, compliant, and safe services

Key Responsibilities

  • Audit and Compliance Review

    • Carry out routine and scheduled audits of SEND non-maintained and independent provisions
    • Undertake detailed compliance reviews, particularly where risk or safeguarding concerns arise
    • Conduct data-led monitoring and risk assessments
  • Safeguarding and Compliance

    • Escalate safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures
    • Monitor improvement actions and follow up with school leaders and operational teams
  • Reporting and Record-Keeping

    • Produce clear, accurate, and well-structured QA reports for internal and external stakeholders
    • Maintain comprehensive records of audits, visits, and compliance checks
  • Collaboration and External Engagement

    • Work closely with local authorities, school placement teams, and Autism East Midlands professionals
    • Support Ofsted inspections, Local Authority (LA) audits, health & safety assessments, and SEND independent reviews
  • Process Improvement

    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality assurance frameworks

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • Degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • Relevant SEND qualifications or professional development in quality assurance, compliance, or children’s services

Experience

  • Quality assurance, compliance, or auditing experience in education, social care, or SEND provision
  • Collaboration and multidisciplinary teamwork in commissioning assurance roles
  • Proven ability to produce clear, concise reports and maintain accurate records
  • Safeguarding and risk assessment training/experience

Skills and Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of SEND provision, including NMI and independent school frameworks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for reporting and stakeholder engagement
  • Working knowledge of key legislation, including:
    • KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education)
    • Ofsted frameworks
    • SEND legal requirements
  • IT proficiency for recording, analysing, and reporting audit data
  • Ability to identify risks and recommend data-driven improvements
