Role Description
The Quality Assurance Operative is a full-time, on-site role based in York, responsible for supporting product quality and food safety across production operations. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Carrying out quality checks on raw materials and finished products
- Monitoring adherence to specifications
- Recording inspection results
- Promptly reporting non-conformances
- Auditing production areas for hygiene, process controls, and labelling accuracy
- Assisting with corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives

The Quality Assurance Operative works closely with technical and production teams to ensure compliance with customer standards, internal procedures, and relevant legislation, and contributes to maintaining a safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail, good observational skills, and the ability to follow structured quality and food safety procedures.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with technical, production, and management colleagues.
- Basic data recording, reporting, and IT skills to document checks, maintain records, and support audits.
- An understanding of food safety, hygiene, and HACCP principles, or be willing to undertake training in these areas.
- Preferably have experience in food manufacturing, quality assurance, or a related operational environment.
- Ideally hold a relevant qualification in food science, quality management, or a related discipline, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to work to agreed schedules, adapt to changing priorities, and remain calm and professional in a fast-paced production setting.
