Quality Assurance Technician – Rich’s Food Production

Purpose of the Role
To ensure products manufactured are safe, legal, and compliant with customer quality standards. To maintain monitoring equipment, ensuring it is well calibrated and adheres to legal and customer requirements.
Key Accountabilities & Outcomes
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure British Retail Consortium (BRC) and customer-specific standards are met at all times.
- Work with the Production Team to establish and maintain procedures and quality standards.
Audit & Inspections
- Conduct regular quality reports.
- Perform internal audits, including:
- Product adherence to specification checks
- Swab & microbial (micros) tests
- Water testing
- GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) audits
- Locker, glass, and plastic audits
- Actively promote good manufacturing practices (GMP).

Equipment & Calibration
- Ensure monitoring equipment is periodically calibrated and records are retained.
- Administer product assessments to verify compliance with finished product specifications.
Labeling & Documentation
- Conduct QA line checks to ensure:
- Correct labeling information and date coding
- Compliance with legal requirements and shelf life standards
- Correctly document and control non-conformances following company procedures.
Problem-Solving & Corrective Actions
- Immediately report any product or process deviations.
- Assist in root cause analysis of non-conformities/complaints and implement corrective actions.
- Contribute to troubleshooting and problem-solving within the factory.
Documentation & QMS Support
- Ensure all related paperwork is legible, retained, and retrievable.
- Assist with implementing QMS (Quality Management System) processes.
- Support hygienic practices & procedures for the Production Team.
Additional Responsibilities
- Compile Product Manuals and labeling information for new product launches.
- Assist in quality testing of:
- Raw materials
- Final products
- Packaging materials
- Conduct cleaning verification and validation to support EMP (Environmental Monitoring Programme).
- Support 2nd party audits (suppliers).
- Assist in training new QA team members and Production Operatives.
- Cover absence in the technical department to meet business needs.

Requirements
Essential
- Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Level 2/3 in HACCP
- Knowledge of EMP concepts
- Familiarity with QMS systems
- Awareness of BRC Food Manufacturing standards
- Basic understanding of complaint handling and food law/regulations
- Experience in bakery production processes
- Training in internal auditing
- Family-owned food manufacturing background
Desirable
- 2+ years experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Degree or equivalent qualification
- Preference for QMS experience
- Experience in internal auditing
