About the Role
Are you a precision-driven Quality Assurance Technician with a strong background in rolling stock, manufacturing, or heavy engineering? We are seeking a proactive QA specialist to lead quality inspection and compliance across assigned manufacturing plant environments.
In this role, you will perform critical in-process tests and checks on inbound/outbound rolling stock products (including carbodys and full train assemblies), ensuring every vehicle leaving the factory floor meets rigorous specifications and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Inspection & Testing: Perform defined in-process quality routines, testing inbound/outbound carbodys and train assemblies against strict engineering specifications.
- Defect Management & Rework: Identify, record, and document deviations; make definitive "In-or-Out" decisions; and coordinate rework activities with production supervisors and train managers.
- Gate Moderation & Acceptances: Moderate, log, and participate in Manufacturing (MF) Quality Gates, customer acceptances, and milestone reviews.
- Documentation & Configuration: Consolidate, merge, and archive vehicle documentation and full train files while ensuring strict adherence to configuration management protocols.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary QA point of contact for Team Leaders, Production Managers, Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA), and incoming goods inspectors.
- Escalation & Support: Monitor QA corrective actions, assist suppliers with quality challenges, and escalate complex unresolved deviations promptly.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
