Quality Controller

Location: London

Reports To: Head of Production and Product Development

Role Overview

The Quality Controller will take ownership of quality assurance across MTM, Bespoke, and RTW categories, ensuring all garments meet the brand’s Savile Row standards before reaching the client. This role moves beyond execution and into structured quality management, process improvement, alteration oversight, and risk prevention. The Quality Controller will be responsible for maintaining measurable QC standards, reducing reject rates, protecting margin, and improving operational discipline across internal and external teams.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control Leadership

  • Take full ownership of QC processes across MTM, Bespoke, and RTW.
  • Conduct final garment inspections and verify points of measure.
  • Produce structured QC reports with actionable insights.
  • Identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain clear documentation of all findings.
  • Monitor reject rate and alteration rate performance.
  • Support reduction of QC failure rates in line with margin protection targets.

Quality Standards & Consistency

  • Ensure consistent measuring standards across tailors and suppliers.
  • Work closely with internal tailors and external ateliers to align measurement methods.
  • Establish clear QC checklists and review protocols.
  • Maintain highest Savile Row standards in finish and presentation.
  • Escalate systemic quality issues proactively.

Alteration Oversight & Management

  • Oversee allocation of alteration work between internal and external teams.
  • Balance workload to maintain delivery timelines.
  • Monitor alteration turnaround times.
  • Perform final QC checks on altered garments before release.
  • Analyse alteration trends and report root causes.
  • Ensure alterations remain minimal and avoidable through improved fitting and QC control.

Shipment & Inventory Control

  • Oversee logging of all incoming orders from suppliers, ADC, Stylers, and Bespoke makers.
  • Ensure barcode tracking accuracy through all stages (receipt → QC → alteration → client delivery).
  • Prepare outgoing shipments to ADC and ateliers with full documentation.
  • Ensure correct export documentation where applicable.
  • Maintain organized rails and stockroom discipline.

Reporting & Visibility

  • Produce daily QC and alteration summary reports for management.
  • Highlight delivery risks and delays.
  • Track:
    • Reject rates
    • Alteration volume
    • Remake frequency
    • Supplier performance
  • Provide structured feedback to Production and Senior Management.

Process Improvement & Risk Management

  • Proactively suggest QC process improvements.
  • Introduce preventive quality checks to reduce rework.
  • Support implementation of margin-protection measures.
  • Contribute to development of QC SOPs.
  • Assist in training tailors on QC awareness and garment handling.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Liaise with Production, Tailors, Client Services, and external suppliers.
  • Support readiness of garments for trunk shows and appointments.
  • Ensure garments are presentation-ready before client interaction.
  • Escalate urgent quality risks in advance of delivery deadlines.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain QC documentation systems.
  • Support ad hoc prototype and fit garment reviews.
  • Be available to support complex alterations when required.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by line manager.

Ad Hoc as Necessary

  • Take on other responsibilities or projects as required to support the production team and ensure the success of operations.

Experience & Skills

Experience

  • 3–6+ years experience in tailoring, luxury QC, or garment inspection.
  • Experience across MTM, Bespoke, and RTW categories.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction and fitting.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of measurement accuracy and balance.
  • Ability to identify structural vs cosmetic issues.
  • Highly organised with strong documentation discipline.
  • Confident communicating with tailors and ateliers.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Commercial awareness of cost implications of rejects and remakes.
  • Ability to work calmly under delivery pressure.
