About The Role

The Quality Engineer role at BAE Critical Skills is a vital position responsible for ensuring that all finished products meet stringent customer expectations and internal quality standards. This role involves verifying the accuracy and workmanship of completed work, identifying non-conformances, and documenting issues clearly and accurately. The successful candidate will provide constructive feedback to technicians and collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization to maintain efficient workflows and uphold continuous improvement initiatives. The primary objective is to safeguard product integrity by ensuring compliance, accuracy, and full approval for delivery throughout the manufacturing process.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a qualification in an engineering discipline, such as an engineering, mathematics, or science degree, or have equivalent experience through extensive industry exposure. Proven experience in quality management within a manufacturing environment, preferably in highly regulated sectors like aerospace, automotive, nuclear, or medical devices, is essential. Candidates should be proficient in quality investigation techniques such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Ishikawa diagrams. Strong data collection and analysis skills are required to support informed business decisions. Excellent communication skills are necessary to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, ensuring effective collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring operational compliance with specifications and quality standards such as ISO 9001
  • Supporting targeted continuous improvement activities
  • Leading and managing the resolution of quality issues
  • Supporting both internal and external audit processes
  • Reviewing shop floor records, technical specifications, and drawings
  • Inspection of products for approval
  • Review of Certificates of Conformity
  • Monitoring reject data and quality issues
  • Analyzing root causes
  • Reporting findings to internal teams and external customers
  • Working closely with export customers to understand their quality requirements
  • Raising concessions and associated paperwork to facilitate product deliveries
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas for supplier and customer reviews, visits, and audits

The Heavy Bomb, Payloads & CT40 Ammunition IDT

Reporting to the IDT Senior Quality Engineer, this role involves managing all aspects of quality across a diverse range of ammunition products. Working within an Integrated Delivery Team, the candidate will collaborate with departments such as Project Management, Engineering, and Procurement. The position is primarily based at the BAE Systems Land UK site in Glascoed, Monmouthshire, operating on a 4/4.5 day work pattern, with occasional travel to other manufacturing and supplier sites as required.
