About The Role

The Quality Engineer role at BAE Critical Skills is a vital position focused on ensuring that all finished products meet stringent quality standards and customer expectations. This role involves verifying the accuracy and workmanship of completed work, identifying non-conformances, and documenting issues clearly to facilitate effective resolution. The successful candidate will work closely with technicians, production teams, and stakeholders across various departments to uphold the integrity of products throughout the manufacturing process. Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, leading quality investigations, and maintaining compliance with standards such as ISO 9001 are core aspects of this position. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-stakes projects within a dynamic environment, supporting the delivery of critical defense and aerospace components.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a qualification in an engineering discipline, such as Engineering, Mathematics, or Science, or have equivalent practical experience. Proven experience in quality management within a manufacturing environment—preferably in highly regulated sectors like aerospace, automotive, nuclear, or medical devices—is essential. Candidates should demonstrate competence in quality investigation techniques such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Ishikawa diagrams. Strong data collection and analysis skills are required to inform business decisions effectively. Excellent communication skills are vital, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. A proactive attitude towards continuous improvement, coupled with the ability to work collaboratively within a team, will ensure success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure operational compliance with all relevant specifications and quality standards, including ISO 9001, to maintain product integrity.
  • Drive and support continuous improvement activities across production processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency and quality enhancement.
  • Lead and manage the resolution of quality issues, facilitating root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, participating in audits, and implementing corrective measures as needed.
  • Review shop floor records, technical specifications, drawings, and inspection reports to verify product conformity.
  • Approve Certificates of Conformity and oversee the inspection process to ensure all products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor reject data and quality metrics, analyzing trends and reporting findings to internal teams and external customers.
  • Collaborate closely with export clients to understand their specific quality and product requirements, raising concessions and managing associated paperwork to enable smooth deliveries.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally for supplier and customer reviews, audits, and site visits is essential to support ongoing quality assurance activities.
