Quality Engineer - Automotive
A prestige automotive manufacturer has an immediate requirement for an experienced Quality Engineer, to ensure compliance to international standards and solve complex quality issues.
Key Accountabilities
- Interpreting international and group standards to ensure new product introduced is compliant to both legal and safety requirements
- Ensuring the correct assessment of significant and critical characteristics through the application of FMEA to ensure the correct preventative and detection methods are implemented
- Utilising support network (quality specialist & technicians) assigned to the same content and steering them tasks to aid the overall success of the module development
- Regular status reporting of progress to target in management circles and to wider project circles when required.
- Ensuring problem-solving activities are performed correctly and promptly to maintain solution target dates
- Overall responsible for assigned project content to ensure relevant quality activities are completed and project milestones are maintained
- Working with multiple stakeholders to aid the ongoing development of concepts through early-stage design, hardware events and pre-series build phases
- To ensure relevant aspects of APQP are completed as per project requirements
- Monitoring content KPIs and steering cross-functional stakeholders to develop, maintain and improve quality output of the new model production process
- Identifying and escalating critical path topics in a timely fashion to the management team
- Impact on innovations and changes
- Leading problem-solving activities
- Defining and validating solutions in problem solving activities
- Input & feedback to aid the improvement of development & manufacturing processes
- Feedback to engineering teams to ensure upcoming products have lessons learned applied
- Identifying improvement opportunities and implementing new/updated internal processes
- Able to communicate a plan visually including clear activities and milestones (upstream and downstream)
- Able to transfer information from technical documents e.g. 2d drawing, ISO standards, into a clear definition of requirements to aid jig/fixture purchase and sign-off

Qualifications & Experience

- HNC/HND in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Quality Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Technical knowledge and understanding of defects and customer relevance, including defect capturing methods.
- Comprehensive PC skills (Office, SharePoint, IPS-Q).
- Experience in automotive core tools (APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP)
- Expert knowledge and working experience of structured problem-solving methods (Fishbone, 5Y, DMAIC etc.)
- Knowledge in how to read gap plans / drawings / inspection instructions.
- Fluent English is essential and German would be an advantage.
- Previous experience in manufacturing operations.
- Leading project teams and managing progress against plan
Additional Skills
- Experience & knowledge of measurement tools (DTI, inspection gauges) and gathering data
- An understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
- Working knowledge of 7 basic tools of quality
