Hays are now looking for a Quality Engineer for one of our local clients:
- Up to £500 p/d Inside IR35
- Hybrid, 2 days in the office, 3 days WFH
- Location: Telford
We're looking for a Quality Engineer to join an Agile delivery team, helping to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle. You'll play a key role in designing and implementing automated testing solutions using Java, JUnit and Playwright, ensuring quality is built into every stage of delivery within a modern CI/CD environment.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and developing automated test frameworks and solutions from scratch
- Building and maintaining UI and API automation suites using Playwright and Java
- Developing automated tests aligned with TDD and BDD practices using JUnit and Cucumber
- Embedding quality engineering practices across the Scrum team
- Integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Delivering functional, integration and non-functional testing activities
- Applying risk-based testing methodologies and effective test design techniques
- Creating and managing test data to support automation activities
- Supporting accessibility, security and performance testing initiatives
- Analysing business requirements, technical designs and architectures to define test approaches
- Coaching and mentoring engineers to improve quality engineering capability across the team
- Supporting manual testing where automation is not appropriate

What we're looking for
- Strong experience as a Quality Engineer, Automation Tester or SDET
- Proven experience building automation frameworks using Playwright
- Strong Java development and testing experience
- Experience using JUnit for automated testing
- Good understanding of CI/CD principles and tooling
- Experience with Git/GitLab version control
- Strong knowledge of Agile and Scrum delivery environments
- Experience testing APIs, microservices and distributed systems
- Knowledge of functional, integration and non-functional testing
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and team collaboration skills
