Quality Engineer – Combat Air Team
Location: Luton (Cap. Green 300 Site) Contract Type: Permanent Salary: £38,000 to £49,000

About the Role
At Leonardo, we’re shaping the future of aerospace and defence with technology that protects people and communities. We’re seeking a Quality Engineer to join our Combat Air team in Luton. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with programme and project teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and drive continuous improvement across key programmes.
Your primary responsibilities will include working within an Integrated Project Team (IPT), partnering with across Operations, Engineering, and broader functions to support quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
As a Quality Engineer, you will:
- Provide guidance and support on all Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) matters.
- Contribute to delivering compliant, high-performance products that meet cost and safety requirements.
- Develop and align Project Assurance Plans (PAPs) with programme risks, opportunities, and improvement priorities.
- Drive achievement of Leonardo Production System (LPS) quality goals, including:
- KPIs related to Quality Notifications (QNs)
- Material Review Boards (MRBs)
- Factory Review Boards (FRBs)
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across production, engineering, and quality workflows.
- Participate in key meetings across departments to ensure alignment on quality standards and objectives.
- Oversee and support the timely processing of concessions and production permits.
- Assist in preparing reports and quality data for programme and functional leaders.
- Support efforts to reduce Non-Conformance costs and improve root cause resolution.

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Education or experience in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a similar regulated industry.
- Familiarity with quality frameworks such as AS9100 / ISO9001, as well as continuous improvement methods.
- Working knowledge of quality tools like:
- Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA)
- Process Mapping
- Verification
- Pattern Fault Lifecycle
- First Article Inspection
- Background in a development environment is highly advantageous.
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Security Clearance
This role is subject to pre-employment screening under the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of National Security Vetting (NSV) controls may apply, including:
- Security Check (SC) eligibility requirements.
- Developed Vetting (DV) eligibility.
