About The Role
The Quality Engineer position at BAE Critical Skills offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and production of high-stakes defense equipment. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that finished products consistently meet both customer expectations and internal quality standards. Your primary focus will be on verifying the accuracy of completed work, identifying workmanship issues, and documenting non-conformances with precision. You will play a vital part in supporting the delivery of high-quality products by providing constructive feedback to technicians and collaborating with various stakeholders across the organization.
This role demands a proactive approach to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and compliance management. You will be involved in conducting internal and external audits, reviewing technical documentation, and monitoring quality data to identify trends and areas for enhancement. Additionally, you will liaise directly with export customers to understand their specific requirements and ensure that all products are compliant with relevant standards and certifications. The role may also require travel within the UK and overseas for supplier and customer reviews, audits, and site visits, offering a dynamic and engaging work environment.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a qualification in an engineering discipline, such as a degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science, or have equivalent practical experience. Proven experience in quality management within a manufacturing environment—preferably in highly regulated sectors such as aerospace, automotive, nuclear, or medical devices—is essential. Strong knowledge of quality investigation techniques, including 8D, 5 Whys, and Ishikawa diagrams, is required to effectively analyze and resolve issues. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to coordinate data collection and interpret findings to support informed business decisions. Excellent communication skills are necessary to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment on quality standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Ensure operational compliance with specifications and quality standards such as ISO 9001, maintaining rigorous quality control practices throughout the manufacturing process.
- Lead and support continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing product quality and operational efficiency.
- Manage and resolve quality issues by investigating root causes, implementing corrective actions, and supporting internal and external audit processes.
- Review shop floor records, technical specifications, and drawings to verify product conformity and approve Certificates of Conformity.
- Monitor reject data and quality metrics, analyzing trends and reporting findings to relevant stakeholders to facilitate proactive quality management.
- Collaborate with export customers to understand their specific quality and product requirements, ensuring customer satisfaction and compliance.
- Raise concessions and complete necessary paperwork to meet customer requirements, enabling timely product deliveries.
- Participate in supplier and customer reviews, audits, and visits, with willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
