Quality Engineering Intern – Cambourne

ZEISS consists of four segments: Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Quality & Research, Medical Technology and Consumer Markets. This is a fantastic opportunity to join ZEISS on a 12-month internship where you will gain exposure to different areas of the business, work with a variety of stakeholders, and support real continuous improvement projects that make a genuine impact.

What you’ll be doing

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work across both Carl Zeiss Ltd and Carl Zeiss Microscopy Ltd, supporting multiple teams to review, understand and improve existing processes. You'll gain exposure to different areas of the business whilst contributing to projects that have a real impact on how teams work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with different teams across both businesses to understand current ways of working and key challenges
  • Map and document existing processes to create clear, structured process flows
  • Identify inefficiencies, gaps and improvement opportunities within current processes
  • Facilitate collaboration between teams to align on best practices and consistent approaches
  • Support the development and implementation of process improvements
  • Analyse quality and operational data to identify trends and support improvement initiatives
  • Develop dashboards and visualisations (e.g. Power BI) to track performance and key metrics
  • Support the definition and alignment of KPIs across departments and sites
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure improvements are practical, sustainable and adopted
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects across the business

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree or currently studying towards a degree
  • Placement year students, postgraduates seeking industry experience and recent graduates are all encouraged to apply
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interest in process improvement, quality and operational excellence
  • Curious mindset and a desire to understand how things work
  • Confident communicator who can engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Comfortable working across multiple teams and topics
  • Organised, proactive and able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Basic understanding of data analysis and visualisation
  • Power BI knowledge would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Interest in engineering and manufacturing environments
  • Comfortable working with process maps and flowcharts
  • A team player who brings enthusiasm and positivity to every call
