Clinical Quality Improvement and Accreditation Nurse/Midwife (Band 6, 12-month fixed-term)

About the Role

The Clinical Quality Improvement and Accreditation Nurse/Midwife will play a pivotal role in delivering the Trust’s quality agenda, working closely with the Corporate Nursing Quality Team. This development opportunity is ideal for a Band 6 nurse or midwife seeking to build expertise in quality improvement, accreditation, and regulatory compliance, while contributing to critical Trust-wide priorities.

Key focus areas include:

  • Ward & Department Accreditation Programme
  • Quality Friday engagement and rapid improvement actions
  • Quality assurance activity, including audits, out-of-hours reviews, and CQC readiness
  • Supporting clinical teams across both acute sites and community-based services to embed high-quality, safe, and patient-centred care

The role also aligns with the Trust’s PROUD values—Professionalism, Respect, Organisational Values, Understanding, and Determination—by fostering a culture of continuous learning and compassionate leadership.

⚠️ Note: Shifts may include weekends and nights at multiple sites.


Key Responsibilities

1. Accreditation & Departmental Support

  • Work with wards, departments, and community teams to:
    • Achieve and sustain accreditation standards through evidence-based engagement.
    • Assist in peer reviews and action planning to drive continual improvement.
    • Provide visible, professional support during site visits and audits.

2. Quality Friday & Rapid Improvement

  • Contribute to planning and delivering the Trust’s Quality Friday programme, including:
    • Conducting walkabouts to engage with staff and patients.
    • Facilitating rapid improvement cycles with clear feedback.
    • Ensuring rapid engagement and action on emerging quality themes.

3. Assurance & Compliance

  • Assist in Trust-wide quality assurance, covering:
    • Audit participation, out-of-hours compliance reviews, and follow-ups.
    • Support teams to address risks, incidents, and incidents, ensuring swift response.
    • Prepare and provide evidence for regulatory inspections (CQC), including mock assessments.

4. Quality Improvement (QI) & Regulatory Readiness

  • Enable systemic improvement by helping teams:
    • Design, implement, and evaluate QI projects.
    • Understand and apply CQC standards, risk management protocols, and governance processes.
  • Promote learning from incidents, complaints, and feedback to enhance safety.

5. Coaching & Leadership

  • Act as a visible quality resource, providing:
    • Mentorship and coaching sessions to staff.
    • Modelling compassionate leadership and fostering collaboration.
  • Support senior nursing leadership by:
    • Analyzing quality data for trends, risks, and opportunities.
    • Preparing reports for governance forums (e.g., safety committees).
