Job Description: Quality Improvement Lead – GCAP Electronics Evolution Consortium (G2E)


Salary & Level

The salary range varies depending on seniority and experience:

  • Lead level: £60,000 – £75,000
  • Manager level: £75,000 – £88,000

Are you an innovative, adaptable Quality professional with a passion for problem-solving and improvement? At Leonardo, we’re looking for a Quality Improvement Lead to join the GCAP Electronics Evolution Consortium (G2E) in our Reading site.

About the Role

G2E unites four world-leading defence electronics champions from the UK, Italy, and Japan as a strategic partner. Our mission: to develop the Integrated Sensors And Non-Kinetic Effects (ISANKE) and Integrated Communications Systems (ICS) for the next-generation GCAP fighter jet, making it a sensor powerhouse.

As Quality Improvement Lead, you’ll act as the UK representative for the G2E Domain Quality Management Office (DQMO). Reporting to the Quality Director, you’ll drive quality improvements globally.

This role involves:

  • Travel: Both national (between Leonardo UK sites) and international.
  • Possible relocations: Likely to transition from Luton to Reading based on project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Process & Data Management:

    • Implement process improvements and quality monitoring frameworks, tracking performance metrics (KPIs).
    • Leverage advanced technologies (AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, IoT) to enhance quality oversight.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work with team leads, engineers, and suppliers to drive continuous improvement.
    • Champion five-phase quality toolsets:
      1. Planning
      2. Product Design & Development
      3. Process Design & Development
      4. Product/Process Validation
      5. Ongoing Production, Use & Post-delivery Service

  • Tool Implementation & Training:

    • Deploy standards-aligned tools and provide training/resources to internal departments.
    • Ensure international partners’ supply chains align with quality standards and requirements.
  • Compliance & Assurance:

    • Conduct audits to verify adherence to tools, processes, and regulations.
    • Facilitate transparency and alignment between G2E and partner teams, ensuring shared quality expectations and deliverables.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • A degree in STEM, engineering, business or quality-related disciplines.
  • Proven experience in a quality or business improvement role.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001 standards.
  • Exceptional analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and collaboration abilities, with experience working across multiple locations/geographies.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AS9100 series (including AS9145).
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum).
  • Experience with quality management systems/tools.
  • Lean/Six Sigma expertise.
