Quality Inspector and Chemical Processor
The Role
This dual-role position combines hands-on chemical processing with in-process quality inspection responsibilities within a regulated aerospace environment. The role supports the full production cycle, from preparation and surface treatment of components through to Goods Inwards and interstage inspection, ensuring all work meets customer, AS9100, and NADCAP requirements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out approved chemical processing operations while also performing inspection and buy-off activities at key stages of manufacture. This includes verifying compliance to engineering specifications, maintaining accurate documentation and traceability, and identifying non-conformances to support product quality and process control.
Working closely with production, quality, and engineering teams, the role plays a key part in ensuring components are processed correctly and released through each stage in line with strict aerospace standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Goods Inwards inspection of raw materials, components, and subcontracted processes in line with company procedures and customer specifications
- Review supplier documentation including Certificates of Conformity, material certs, and process certifications to ensure compliance with purchase order and engineering requirements
- Conduct dimensional and visual inspection of parts using appropriate measuring equipment (e.g. verniers, micrometers, gauges)
- Carry out interstage inspection and buy-off of components throughout the manufacturing and processing route, ensuring conformity before progression to the next operation
- Verify that all operations have been completed in accordance with route cards, work instructions, and relevant specifications
- Ensure full traceability of parts and materials is maintained in line with AS9100 requirements
- Accurately complete inspection records and stamp/sign off work in accordance with company authorisation levels
- Liaise with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve inspection issues and clarify requirements
- Support internal and external audits (including AS9100 and NADCAP) by maintaining compliant records and work practices
- Ensure inspection equipment is used correctly and highlight any calibration concerns
- Maintain a clean, organised, and audit-ready inspection area in line with company standards
- Carry out chemical processing operations including cleaning, etching, passivation and other surface treatments in line with approved process specifications
- Load and unload components safely onto jigs and fixtures, ensuring correct orientation and protection of parts throughout processing
- Follow detailed work instructions, engineering drawings, and customer specifications
- Monitor and control process parameters such as temperature, time, and agitation to ensure compliance with approved standards
- Perform routine checks on chemical baths and report any deviations to supervision or laboratory personnel
- Visually inspect components before and after processing to ensure cleanliness and surface condition meet requirements prior to next stage operations
- Identify and report non-conforming parts or process issues in line with company quality procedures
- Handle chemicals and operate equipment in accordance with COSHH, health & safety, and environmental regulations
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure work areas remain audit-ready in support of NADCAP requirements

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
