Quality Manager Opportunity
A brand new vacancy for a Quality Manager with a background in FMCG, to join an established business near Oldham to head up their Quality Assurance and QMS activities.
Opportunity Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quality Manager to join a leading manufacturing site near Oldham, offering a salary of £65,000 - £70,000 p/a plus additional benefits including car allowance and annual bonus. This role is designed for someone who is passionate about upholding the highest levels of Quality Assurance and QMS Standards, while mentoring and developing a team with varying levels of experience.
What You'll Do
As Quality Manager, you will be entrusted with leading the site's entire quality agenda, setting strategic direction while ensuring day-to-day operational excellence. Your role will see you collaborating across departments to embed robust systems that guarantee compliance with all relevant regulations. You will champion continuous improvement initiatives that drive measurable enhancements in product quality and hygiene standards, while developing your team's capabilities through coaching and mentoring to create an environment where everyone understands their role in maintaining high standards. Your ability to act as a trusted partner during audits or inspections will be essential in safeguarding both customer satisfaction and regulatory standing. Success in this role means consistently delivering products that meet exacting specifications while nurturing a culture of accountability and shared achievement.
- Set the overall quality strategy for the site by deploying group and divisional quality frameworks that align with corporate vision.
- Design and lead the implementation of comprehensive site quality improvement programmes in close collaboration with divisional teams.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust quality management systems that adhere to both internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports including QA Specialists, Hygiene Specialists, and QC Supervisors to foster a high-performance culture focused on shared goals.
- Oversee all aspects of quality control operations including laboratory testing, product release procedures, documentation management, and data integrity.
- Drive initiatives aimed at continuous improvement across quality assurance processes, hygiene practices, and manufacturing operations to enhance product integrity.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customer audits, regulatory inspections, and certification processes ensuring positive outcomes every time.
- Monitor key performance indicators related to quality objectives; report findings regularly to ensure alignment with divisional targets.
- Collaborate closely with production, supply chain, health & safety, and environmental teams to embed best-in-class quality practices throughout plant operations.

What You Bring
To excel as Quality Manager in this environment you will bring extensive experience from regulated manufacturing settings where you have successfully managed complex quality systems. Your background should include hands-on involvement with ISO certification processes alongside deep familiarity with current UK legislation. You'll possess strong analytical abilities allowing you to interpret technical data accurately while identifying trends or areas for improvement. A commitment to nurturing talent within your team is essential; you should be comfortable coaching others towards shared objectives while supporting their ongoing development. Your approach will be grounded in ethical professionalism combined with an enthusiasm for driving positive change through structured problem-solving techniques.
- Comprehensive knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and GMP frameworks with proven experience leading certification processes within manufacturing environments.
- Expertise in root cause analysis methodologies coupled with experience implementing corrective/preventive actions following incidents or non-conformances.
- Demonstrated success managing customer audits or regulatory inspections resulting in positive outcomes for both company reputation and client satisfaction.
- Competence applying continuous improvement tools such as Lean or Six Sigma principles within quality assurance contexts.
- Strong data analysis skills enabling effective monitoring of KPIs; adept at preparing detailed compliance reports for senior stakeholders.
- Professional certifications such as ISO Lead Auditor or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt are highly desirable; equivalent EU-recognised qualifications also considered valuable.
