Step into a pivotal role where quality, governance, and technical assurance converge. As a Quality Manager on a 6-month fixed-term contract, you will take ownership of a high-impact function within a UKAS-accredited environment, working at the forefront of compliance in a regulated technical sector. This opportunity allows you to influence how quality is embedded across complex projects, collaborate with skilled professionals, and engage with regulatory bodies.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
The Quality Manager oversees the ongoing maintenance, oversight, and enhancement of the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring full alignment with:
- UKAS accreditation requirements
- HSE guidance
- Relevant ISO standards (ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025)
At the core of technical governance, this role partners closely with:
- Surveyors
- Analysts
- Technical specialists
- Senior leadership
Key responsibilities include:
- Operational oversight across surveying, air monitoring, and laboratory analysis
- Ensuring consistency, integrity, and compliance in all service delivery
- Managing competence, authorisation, and procedural adherence
- Leading audit projects, engaging with UKAS Assessment Managers and HSE inspectors as needed
- Supporting business development by reinforcing compliance credibility in client submissions and tenders

Core Capabilities & Responsibilities
Quality & Compliance Management
- Manage and evolve Quality Management Systems aligned with:
- ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025
- Regulatory frameworks (e.g., Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, HSG264)
- Apply a meticulous approach to:
- Document control
- Governance
- Risk assessment
- Balance compliance requirements with business objectives to ensure robust quality assurance across all operations
UKAS & HSE Audit Management
- Lead UKAS audit preparation and execution, acting as the key point of contact for regulatory bodies
- Manage audit findings with structured root cause analysis
- Implement effective corrective actions while maintaining continuous audit readiness
- Foster strong relationships with external stakeholders
Internal Auditing & Quality Control
- Design and deliver comprehensive internal audit projects covering:
- Field operations
- Laboratory processes
- Technical competence
- Conduct site-based witnessed audits and desktop reviews
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Communicate insights clearly for senior decision-making
Proficiency Testing & Technical Assurance
- Oversee technical assurance processes to maintain:
- Accuracy
- Reliability
- Manage proficiency testing schemes, reviewing performance data
- Drive improvements in:
- Method validation
- Equipment calibration
- Measurement uncertainty
- Competence frameworks aligned to accreditation scope
Training, Competence & Improvement
- Develop organizational capability by ensuring compliance with:
- Training requirements
- Qualifications
- CPD (Continuous Professional Development) standards
- Mentor teams and foster a culture of accountability and quality
- Monitor regulatory changes, embed updates, and promote continuous improvement
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a UKAS-accredited asbestos consultancy or equivalent technical regulatory environment
- Strong working knowledge of:
- ISO/IEC 17020
- ISO/IEC 17025
- Relevant BOHS certifications (preferably P402, P403, and P404; P405 knowledge advantageous)
- Internal or Lead Auditor training (highly desirable)
- Consistent record of professional development in quality management and compliance
- Experience leading UKAS audits and engaging with regulatory bodies

Working Environment
This role offers a balanced and flexible approach:

- Travel to operational sites for audits and compliance work
