As Quality Manager on a 6-month fixed term contract, you will take ownership of a high-impact function within a UKAS-accredited environment, working at the forefront of compliance in a regulated technical sector. This is an opportunity to influence how quality is embedded across complex projects while collaborating with skilled professionals and regulatory bodies.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
The Quality Manager is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, oversight, and enhancement of the Quality Management System, ensuring full alignment with:
- UKAS accreditation requirements
- HSE guidance
- Relevant ISO standards
Operating at the centre of technical governance, the role partners closely with:
- Surveyors
- Analysts
- Technical specialists
- Senior leadership
To ensure consistency, integrity, and compliance across service delivery under ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025 frameworks.
Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight of:
- Competence
- Authorisation
- Procedural adherence
- Manage audit projects
- Engage directly with:
- UKAS Assessment Managers
- HSE inspectors (where required)
- Support business development by reinforcing compliance credibility in:
- Client submissions
- Tenders

- Strong foundation in managing and evolving Quality Management Systems under:
- ISO/IEC 17020

- Experience with regulatory frameworks:
- Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
- HSG264
- Ability to balance compliance requirements and business objectives, ensuring:
- Robust and practical quality assurance across operations
- Meticulous approach to:
- Document control

UKAS and HSE Audit Management
- Experience leading UKAS audits from preparation to conclusion
- Key point of contact for regulatory bodies, managing findings with:
- Structured root cause analysis
- Effective corrective actions
- Ensures continuous audit readiness while maintaining relationships with external stakeholders
Internal Auditing and Quality Control
- Design and deliver internal audit projects, covering:
- Field operations
- Laboratory processes
- Technical competence
- Conduct:
- Site-based witnessed audits
- Desktop reviews
- Identify:
- Trends
- Risks and opportunities
- Communicate insights to support senior-level decision-making
Proficiency Testing and Technical Assurance
- Oversee technical assurance processes to maintain:
- High standards of accuracy
- Reliability
- Experience managing:
- Proficiency testing schemes
- Performance data reviews
- Improvements where needed
- Ensure robust control of:
- Method validation
- Equipment calibration
- Measurement uncertainty
- Competence frameworks aligned to accreditation scope
Training, Competence and Improvement
- Commitment to developing organizational capability, ensuring:
- Training requirements are met and maintained
- Training and qualifications requirements met:
- CPD requirements
- Build a culture of accountability and quality
- Proactively monitor regulatory changes, embedding updates and fostering continuous improvements across systems and processes
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a UKAS-accredited asbestos consultancy or similar technical environment
- Strong working knowledge of:
- ISO/IEC 17020
- ISO/IEC 17025
- Relevant BOHS certifications:
- P402 (preferred)
- P403 (preferred)
- P404 (preferred)
- P405 knowledge advantageous
- Record of:
- Professional development in:
- Quality management
- Compliance
- Professional development in:
- Internal or Lead Auditor training (highly desirable)
