Quality Manager (6 Month Fixed-Term Contract) – UKAS-Accredited Environment

As Quality Manager on a 6-month fixed-term contract, you will take ownership of a high-impact function within a UKAS-accredited environment, working at the forefront of compliance in a regulated technical sector. This is an opportunity to influence how quality is embedded across complex projects while collaborating with skilled professionals and regulatory bodies.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
The Quality Manager ensures the maintenance, oversight, and enhancement of the Quality Management System (QMS), adhering to:
- UKAS accreditation requirements
- HSE guidance
- ISO/IEC 17020 & 17025 frameworks
Operating at the core of technical governance, this role partners with:
- UKAS surveyors
- Technical specialists
- Senior leadership to guarantee consistency, integrity, and compliance across:
- Surveying
- Air monitoring
- Laboratory analysis
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee competence, authorisation, and procedural adherence
- Manage UKAS audit projects and engage directly with HSE inspectors
- Strengthen compliance credibility in client submissions and tenders
- Drive continuous improvement in service quality, operational efficiency, and technical performance
- Represent regulatory bodies and influence industry-leading standards

Core Capabilities
1. Quality & Compliance Management
- Manage QMS evolution aligned with ISO/IEC 17020 & 17025
- Navigate regulatory frameworks: Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, HSG264
- Balance compliance with business objectives
- Expertise in document control, governance, and risk assessment
2. UKAS & HSE Audit Management
- Lead UKAS preparation & execution, including:
- Structured root cause analysis
- Effective corrective actions
- Stakeholder relationship management (UKAS/HSE inspectors)
3. Internal Auditing & Quality Control
- Design and deliver comprehensive internal audits:
- Field operations
- Laboratory processes
- Technical competence
- Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Present findings to senior leadership with clear decision-making insights
4. Proficiency Testing & Technical Assurance
- Oversee accuracy/relibility through:
- Proficiency testing schemes
- Method validation, equipment calibration, measurement uncertainty
- Competence frameworks aligned with accreditation scope (ISO 9001 integration advantageous)
5. Training, Competence & Improvement
- Ensure compliance with CPD and certification standards (BOHS qualifications beneficial)
- Develop organisation-wide capability through mentoring and structured training
- Proactively monitor regulatory change and embed updates in processes

Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Technical & Regulatory Expertise Required
- Proven experience in a UKAS-accredited asbestos consultancy or similar
- Essential: Strong knowledge of ISO/IEC 17020 & 17025
- Certifications:
- *BOHS (Building Occupation Hygiene Society)**: P402, P403, P404 (P405 knowledge advantageous)
- Internal or Lead Auditor training (desirable)
- Beneficial: ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, sector-specific accreditation
Soft Skills & Mindset
- Strategic thinker with a meticulous, analytical approach
- Proficient in root cause analysis and continuous improvement
- Strong relationship management with regulators and stakeholders
Working Environment
Flexible yet Collaborative
- Hybrid model (office/site/remote balance) with:
- Regular office presence for audit prep & governance
- Site visits for inspections & audits
- Occasional external engagements (UKAS/HSE meetings)
Travel Consideration
- Domestic travel required for surveillance and external credibility-building.
