Quality Manager - Fixed Term Contract (6 Months)

Step into a pivotal role where quality, governance, and technical assurance converge. As Quality Manager on a 6-month fixed term contract, you will take ownership of a high-impact function within a UKAS-accredited environment, working at the forefront of compliance in a regulated technical sector. This is an opportunity to influence how quality is embedded across complex projects while collaborating with skilled professionals and regulatory bodies.


Purpose & Scope of the Role

The Quality Manager is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, oversight, and enhancement of the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring full alignment with:

  • UKAS accreditation requirements
  • HSE guidance
  • Relevant ISO standards

Operating at the center of technical governance, this role partners closely with:

  • Surveyors
  • Analysts
  • Technical specialists
  • Senior leadership

to ensure consistency, integrity, and compliance across all service delivery.

The position spans organizational-wide responsibility across:

  • Surveying
  • Air monitoring
  • Laboratory analysis functions

delivered under:

  • ISO/IEC 17020
  • ISO/IEC 17025 frameworks

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing competence, authorisation, and procedural adherence.
  • Oversight of audit projects and direct engagement with:
    • UKAS Assessment Managers
    • HSE inspectors (where required)
  • Supporting business development by reinforcing compliance credibility in:
    • Client submissions
    • Tenders

Core Capabilities & Requirements

Quality & Compliance Management

  • Strong foundation in managing and evolving QMS aligned with ISO/IEC 17020 and 17025.
  • Confident navigation of regulatory frameworks, including:
    • Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
    • HSG264
  • Demonstrated ability to balance compliance requirements with business objectives for robust quality assurance.

UKAS & HSE Audit Management

  • Experience leading UKAS audits—from preparation to conclusion.
  • Key stakeholder liaison with regulatory bodies, managing:
    • Audit findings
    • Root cause analysis
    • Effective corrective actions

Internal Auditing & Quality Control

  • Design and deliver comprehensive internal audit projects, covering:
    • Field operations
    • Laboratory processes
    • Technical competence
  • Conduct:
    • Site-based witnessed audits
    • Desktop reviews
  • Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate insights clearly for decision-making at senior levels.

Proficiency Testing & Technical Assurance

  • Oversee technical assurance processes, focusing on:
    • Accuracy and reliability
    • Procedural adherence for:
      • Method validation
      • Equipment calibration
      • Measurement uncertainty
      • Competence frameworks aligned with accreditation scope

Training, Competence & Improvement

  • Commitment to developing capability across the organisation, ensuring:
    • Training requirements
    • Qualifications
    • CPD compliance are met.
  • Provide mentoring and structured development to foster a culture of:
    • Accountability
    • Continuous quality improvement
  • Proactively monitor regulatory changes and embed updates.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience within a UKAS-accredited asbestos consultancy or equivalent technical field.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Relevant BOHS certifications (e.g., P402, P403, P404). Knowledge of P405 preferred.
  • Experience with internal or lead auditing.
  • A record of professional development in quality management and compliance.
