About the Role

Fort Augustus Office (with travel to project sites across Scotland)
Reporting To
Project HSSEQ Manager
Role Purpose
The Project Quality Manager leads Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC), ensuring adherence to client specifications, contractual requirements, engineering standards and company procedures.
Working closely with operational, engineering and delivery teams, the role enforces a rigorous quality culture, driving continuous improvement, right-first-time delivery and project success.
Responsibilities span both office-based tasks and on-site engagements, requiring collaboration with subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives at multiple project locations.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Leadership
- Champion and implement the project’s Quality Management Plan (QMP).
- Establish a proactive quality culture across all activities.
- Provide expert guidance on QA/QC policies, standards and best practices.
- Work with the Project HSSEQ Manager to meet quality targets and objectives.
- Champion right-first-time delivery to minimise defects and rework.
Quality Assurance (QA)
- Develop, implement and maintain the Project Quality Plan, ensuring alignment with:
- ISO 9001 requirements
- Client specifications
- Contractual obligations
- Engineering standards
- Ensure QA processes comply with company procedures and industry frameworks.
- Conduct internal/external quality audits.
- Support client and third-party assurance activities.
- Monitor performance to evaluate opportunities for improvement.

Quality Control (QC)
- Establish and enforce inspection and test regimes across the project.
- Review and approve Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Ensure inspection hold/witness points are implemented and adhered to.
- Validate that works meet design specifications prior to handover.
- Assist site teams in QC activities.
Inspection & Assurance
- Perform on-site quality inspections and technical reviews.
- Monitor compliance with design, client and industry standards.
- Identify non-conformances and drive corrective actions.
- Issue detailed inspection reports and risk assessments.
- Report on quality assurance outcomes for stakeholder review.
Non-Conformance Management
- Oversee the Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) process.
- Investigate defects or failures, facilitating root cause analysis.
- Develop and track corrective actions to closure.
- Analyse trends and recommend preventive measures.
- Support lessons-learned and continuous improvement efforts.
Documentation & Handover
- Maintain compliant quality records and documentation.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness and audit readiness of documentation.
- Compile quality handover packs.
- Oversee project closure processes in conjunction with clients.
- Validate as-built documentation before submission.
Supply Chain Quality Management
- Align subcontractor/supplier QA/QC efforts with project needs.
- Proactively participate in supplier audits and performance assessments.
- Enforce QA requirements, driving performance improvements where necessary.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary quality representative on the project.
- Attend client reviews and quality meetings.
- Collaborate with client teams, auditors and internal stakeholders.
- Build positive partnerships to deliver long-term success.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Generate quality reports, dashboards and KPI metrics (e.g., NCR trends, audit outcomes).
- Monitor performance against quality objectives and escalate concerns.
- Provide regular updates to the Project HSSEQ Manager and Director.
- Support governance and assurance forums.
Essential Accountabilities
✅ Implementation of QA/QC plans in line with contractual and regulatory obligations. ✅ Audits achieve successful outcomes with minimal findings. ✅ Quality objectives met while reducing defects, rework and non-conformances. ✅ Accurate, auditable documentation for project closeout.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- HNC/HND or degree in Engineering, Construction, Quality Management or a related field.
- ISO 9001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certificate.
- Valid UK driving licence.

- Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) membership.
- Advanced QA accreditation:
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification.
- Six Sigma Green Belt.
- Health and safety certifications such as NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Industry-specific qualifications: Temporary Works, NRSWA or utility sector training.
- Professional membership to a body like CQI or CIBSE.
Essential Experience
- Experience as a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer or Senior Quality Advisor.
- Proven track record in QA/QC for construction, utility or infrastructure projects.
- Inspection and test procedures (ITP) experience.
- NCR investigation and corrective action management.
- Auditing within ISO 9001-certified environments.
- Effective collaboration with engineering and operational teams.
DesirableExperience
- Hands-on experience with power transmission, substations or cable projects.
- Work with key utility clients: National Grid, SP Energy Networks or SSEN.
- Multi-disciplinary project management experience.
