THE BUSINESS

Our client is a leading high-volume manufacturing business based in County Durham. We are seeking to recruit a Quality Systems Engineer who is trained as Lead Auditor within ISO 9001 or ISO 13485.

The Quality Systems Engineer reports to the Associate Director.

The Quality Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s Quality Management System (QMS) while ensuring all products and operations meet applicable regulatory, compliance, and safety requirements. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to maintain certifications, manage audits, and drive a strong quality culture across the business.

THE ROLE

  • Develop, maintain, and improve the company’s Quality Management System in alignment with relevant standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, ISO 22716, British Retail Consortium (BRC), Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO))
  • Lead internal audits, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), risk assessments, and root-cause analyses.
  • Oversee document control, change control, and quality record management.
  • Monitor quality KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure products meet internal specifications and customer expectations.
  • Interpret and apply regulatory requirements relevant to company products and markets.
  • Maintain certifications, and regulatory filings.
  • Serve as primary contact for regulatory authorities, certification bodies, and external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards, and industry guidelines.
  • Track regulatory changes and communicate their impact to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide training on quality and compliance topics across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with operations, R&D, supply chain, and commercial teams to support compliant product development and manufacturing.
  • Champion a culture of quality, safety, compliance, and continuous learning.

THE PERSON

  • Must have the ability to manage the Quality Management System
  • Lead Auditor training status within ISO 9001 or ISO 13485
  • Able to deal with non-conformance appropriately
  • Must be diligent and accurate
  • Must be resilient and enjoy a challenge
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office
