The Grocery Service Centre, based near Liverpool, supports ABF’s UK Grocery division with shared services activities covering:

Overview of Role

📍 Location: Newcastle-under-Lyme 🏠 Workplace: Allied Bakeries, Stoke (full-time on-site role) 💰 Salary: Competitive ⏳ Hours: 37.5 hours/week (Mon-Fri, office hours)

Quality Systems Manager – Stoke bakery site

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of quality auditors, ensuring consistent alignment between:
    • Company standards
    • Statutory food safety rules
    • Quality/environmental hygiene requirements

  • Implement and promote best practices, working closely with the Technical Manager on compliance and training initiatives.

  • Develop, enforce and manage:

    • Quality systems/methods
    • Regulated procedures
    • Process controls to meet site operational standards.
  • Prioritise core accountability:

    • HACCP oversight and internal auditing.
    • Clarify and enforce statutory/industry requirements.
  • Propose cost-saving/quality improvement strategies with a focus on process optimisation, especially in areas like weight control and*、moving.

  • Collaborate with the Technical Manager to ensure compliance during product launch introductions (NPD/EPD).

  • Manage and respond to food safety incidents—take local actions, flag escalation needs, and consult Technical Operations as required.

  • Develop corrective actions post-audit, ensuring accountability.

  • Build strong relationships across the business to embed operational impact and influence.

  • Lead, mentor and develop the quality auditing team.

  • Attain and exceed KPIs, 1:1 objectives and Company Safety Standards.


Requirements

Essential Qualifications

✅ Proven leadership experience—demonstrated through results. ✅ Self-motivated, with team-building and problem-solving skills. ✅ Ability to perform under pressure, focusing on attention to detail and structured problem-solving. ✅ Strong relationship-building skills and commitment to stakeholder alignment.

✔ Expertise to coach and train on food safety and legal compliance standards.

  • Food Science qualification (e.g. HNC, HND, or university-level equivalence).
  • Baking process knowledge and experience.
  • Level 3 HACCP certification.
  • Accreditation with IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement methodologies.
