Location: West Midlands
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week, with flexibility to meet business needs)

About the Role

We’re recruiting for an experienced Quality & Technical Manager to join a well-established business supplying steel and tubular products into the Oil & Gas sector.

This is a hands-on, varied role where you’ll be responsible for ensuring technical compliance, maintaining quality standards and providing technical support across Sales, Operations and external customers. You’ll play a key role in delivering excellent customer service while driving continuous improvement across quality processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure technical and quality requirements are correctly reviewed and implemented
  • Carry out contract reviews, certification checks and resolve technical or quality-related issues (e.g. NCRs, MRBs, final documentation, ITPs, SMDLs)
  • Support Sales teams with technical expertise and ensure customer requirements are clearly understood
  • Liaise with mills, suppliers, subcontractors and test houses to ensure compliant product delivery
  • Follow up with customers and suppliers to ensure timely resolution of technical matters
  • Support customer enquiries, including material selection and specification handling
  • Manage technical documentation, certifications and inspection records
  • Support internal and external audits (ISO, customer and supplier audits)
  • Monitor and improve quality processes and contribute to continuous improvement activities
  • Provide technical support and contribute to internal training where required
  • Maintain and update technical specifications and ensure compliance
  • Use laboratory equipment where required (e.g. hardness testing, visual inspection, PMI)
  • Support inspection and documentation activities linked to customer and project requirements
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across Sales, Quality and Operations
  • Act responsibly with regard to health, safety and compliance requirements

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Background in metals, materials, engineering or a related field
  • Relevant qualification (HNC / degree preferred)
  • Experience in steel, metals or Oil & Gas environment
  • Good understanding of technical specifications, quality processes and certification requirements
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment where required (e.g. hardness testing, visual inspection, PMI)
  • Ability to work effectively across Sales, Operations and Quality

Desirable Experience

  • Materials testing or NDT certifications
  • Experience with relevant Oil & Gas standards (e.g. API, ASTM, NORSOK) is an advantage
