About the Role
Nextbase is hiring a proactive, technically adept mid-level Test Engineer to anticipate issues before customers experience them. The ideal candidate:
- Takes initiative in testing—not waiting to be directed.
- Questions product logic to uncover edge cases, risks, and gaps.
- Prioritises exhaustive debugging, offering clear, actionable insights to developers.

Key qualities: Hand-on problem-solving with a background in debugging and root-cause analysis, paired with curiosity and a self-starter mentality. Responsibilities include owning testing processes end-to-end, collaborating with developers to improve product quality, and refining test tooling autonomously.
Objectives
- Proactively design, implement, and maintain tests across Nextbase products.
- Debug failures thoroughly, finding root causes and providing actionable findings.
- Identify coverage gaps, edge cases, and failure risks proactively.
- Develop deep product knowledge to enhance testing rigor and assist developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Test Development: Design and execute manual and automated test cases.
- Fault Remediation:
- Reproduce defects, analyze logs, isolate causes.
- Provide detailed reports to developers for fixes (inclusive of logs/evidence).
- Improvement Initiatives: Suggest and drive enhancements in:
- test methodologies,
- tooling, and
- processes.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with developers to understand code changes, verify fixes, and confirm root-causes are resolved.
- Update written documentation to reflect test results transparently.

Requirements
- 3+ years’ hands-on experience in software testing, preferably low-level debugging.
- Proven track record of technical problem-solving—reproducing issues, digging through logs, and resolving faults.
- Technical comfort with:
- system internals,
- debugging tools,
- both hardware-interfacing and software-context testing.
- Agile/scrum competency and a self-motivated mindset.
- Desire and ability to mentor junior teams or escalate findings constructively.
- Familiarity with test automation/scripting is a plus.
- Student/ions wishing to leave amongst hardware-software projects interested—especially Dash Cams or consumer electronics.
