Quantity Surveyor

Quantity Surveyor – Energy Projects (Aberthaw or Llandyfaelog)

Murphy is currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Energy team, working at either:

  • Aberthaw (South of Cardiff, near Barry) on an existing substation extension
  • Llandyfaelog (between Carmarthen and Llanelli) on a new substation build

The commercial team will primarily work off-site at a client co-located office (likely Bristol or Cardiff) during Stages 1a and 1b.

A Day in the Life

You will support commercial operations between Aberthaw & Llandyfaelog sites, focusing on key responsibilities:

Core Duties

  • Financial & Reporting
    • Aid internal commercial reporting and external documentation
    • Prepare Valuations & Applications for Payment with full compliance

  • Cost Management

    • Maintain contractually compliant cost reports for client delivery
    • Monitor subcontractor & material procurement schedules
  • Payment & Account Administration

    • Process subcontractor & supplier agreements, including:
      • Assisting in subcontract drafting (including professional services)
      • Managing requisitions, authorisation, and payments
      • Agreement of final accounts
  • Contract Administration

    • Change management & register maintenance
    • Commercial risk identification and value engineering
  • Measurement & Compliance

    • Apply standard methods of measurement (contract-specific)
    • Support project final account preparation
  • Sustainability Integration

    • Innovate with cost coding to meet external & internal requirements
    • Contribute to EPC sustainability frameworks

Requirements

Qualifications & Registration

  • HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field
  • Registered with RICS/ICES – working towards chartership

Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in a commercial role, e.g.:
    • Assistant Quantity Surveyor
    • Quantity Surveyor
    • Comparable contract/procurement roles
  • EC16 & JBIG models applied experience
  • Strong understanding of Standard Forms of Contract (NEC)
  • Proficiency in cost-codes & scheduling management
