## **Senior Engineer - Shafts & Headhouses: Rail Track Infrastructure (Permanent)**

### **About the Role**
- Join a leading rail infrastructure organisation as a **Senior Engineer** within our **Shafts & Headhouses** team, specialising in the procurement and installation of critical rail underground structures.
- Take ownership of **end-to-end specification, procurement, and construction** across train stations, tunnels, and major infrastructure projects.
- Work on complex rail schemes, ensuring compliance with **UK rail standards, safety regulations, and sustainability requirements**.
- Collaborate closely with **suppliers, contractors, and project managers** to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within budget.
### **Key Responsibilities**
#### **Specification & Engineering**
- Develop comprehensive engineering designs for **shafts and headhouses**, considering **structural integrity, durability, and alignment with rail network requirements**.
- Liaise with **engineering stakeholders** to optimise solutions for differing site conditions and operational needs.
- Ensure all designs meet **TfL (Transport for London) or Network Rail standards**, where applicable.

Procurement & Supply Chain Management
- Lead the procurement process, working with suppliers and manufacturers to source materials, equipment, and specialist subcontractors.
- Conduct thorough tender evaluations, vendor assessments, and risk analysis to select optimal suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts to secure competitive pricing and service levels.
Project Delivery & Collaboration
- Oversee installation and construction phases, including on-site inspections and quality control.
- Work closely with contract managers, surveyors, and health & safety teams to ensure smooth delivery.
- Act as a key adviser to external stakeholders (e.g., Contractors, consultants, and asset owners).
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure all activities comply with health & safety regulations, rail industry guidelines, and government mandates.
- Produce detailed engineering reports, feasibility studies, and safety assessments for senior management and regulators.
- Monitor cost efficiencies and performance metrics to identify improvements.
Requirements – Qualifications & Experience
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in civil/structural engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7+ years’ relevant experience, preferably in rail infrastructure, underground construction, or shafts/headhouses.
- Proven expertise in UK rail standards (e.g., Network Rail or LTN Standards).
- Strong project management skills, including scope, cost, and schedule control.
- Excellent commercial acumen in negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships.
- Experience with leading multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional membership (e.g., ICE, IStructE) desirable.
- Fluency in British industry-specific jargon and compliance knowledge essential.
