Outline of role

Sigma Group is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing refit schemes across a variety of workstreams, ranging from short-term projects of approximately one week to larger schemes lasting up to six months.

This is a hands-on role with full commercial responsibility from project inception through to completion. You will oversee measuring, scoping, tendering, cost control, subcontractor management, client liaison, reporting, valuations, and final accounts, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.

Main Responsibilities

  • Attend scoping and survey meetings to assess project requirements
  • Measure, scope, and prepare cost plans for proposed works
  • Liaise with Client Project Quantity Surveyors and Cost Managers
  • Prepare subcontractor enquiries and analyse returned quotations
  • Place subcontractor orders and manage contractual documentation
  • Provide commercial support to the Managing QS and Commercial Manager
  • Support operational and delivery teams throughout project lifecycle
  • Prepare budget costings and bills of quantities
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously across various workstreams
  • Produce accurate commercial reports and cost updates
  • Undertake valuations and interim applications for payment
  • Forecast project cash flow and monitor expenditure
  • Arrange payments to subcontractors in line with agreed terms
  • Prepare, negotiate, and submit final accounts
  • Ensure robust final accounting and project close-out procedures

Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying within fit-out, refurbishment, or construction sectors
  • Ability to manage several projects at one time while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent negotiation and subcontractor management skills
  • Strong analytical and numerical ability with attention to detail
  • Good understanding of contracts, valuations, and final accounts
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant commercial software
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline
  • Relevant industry experience in a Quantity Surveyor role
  • Membership of RICS or working towards chartered status desirable
  • Full UK driving licence
