Quantity Surveyor
Quantity Surveyor – Infrastructure Team (Thames Water Partnership)
About the Role
Murphy is recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering water infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects in partnership with Thames Water as part of the AMP8 framework.
Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann. We operate 25+ facilities under full DBOM contracts, ensuring robust commercial and project delivery expertise.
A Day in the Life

Commercial reporting & document preparation:
- Internal and client-facing reports (Valuations, Applications for Payment, Cost Reports)
- Support with contractually compliant documentation

Financial & procurement management:
- Subcontract & material procurement scheduling
- Subcontractor/supplier account administration (requisitions, monitoring, authorisation of payments, final account resolution)

Contract administration & risk mitigation:
- Change management & maintenance of associated registers
- Identification of commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering, and cost mitigation strategies
- Use of internal costing systems and accurate cost allocation coding

Measurement & certification:
- Quantity measurement per standard methods of measurement (e.g., IChemE)
- Maintenance of accurate site records

Financial & cash flow management:
- Project final accounts preparation
- Cash management (WIP control, cash flow production)

Contractual drafting & risk management:
- Drafting of subcontracts (including professional services contracts)
- Insurance claims identification and policy coverage analysis

Client & team engagement:
- Attendance at client engagement events for feedback
- Mentorship of junior team members
Requirements
Essential
- BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent)
- Chartered status (RICS / CICES) or working towards Member status
- Good knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract (IChemE particularly recommended)
- Strong commercial realism in financial processes (Applications for Payment, cost reporting)
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Background in Civil Engineering / Mechanical works
- CSCS Card (White / Gold)
Preferences
- Prior experience in construction/commercial roles or water infrastructure projects.
