About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join a leading contractor delivering major infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in the commercial management of projects, supporting the delivery team to achieve commercial objectives while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

This position offers exposure to complex projects and provides opportunities for professional development within a collaborative and high-performing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Management

  • Support the commercial and operational teams in delivering project objectives.
  • Develop a strong understanding of project requirements, commercial risks, and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the achievement of project performance targets, including cost, quality, and sustainability objectives.

Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Manage subcontract procurement activities in line with project programmes and company procedures.
  • Prepare work package documentation and tender enquiries.
  • Evaluate tender submissions and support subcontractor selection.
  • Procure materials and specialist services while ensuring value for money and compliance with company policies.
  • Foster positive supply chain relationships to drive continuous improvement.

Cost Control & Reporting

  • Monitor project costs, resources, and budgets to ensure commercial targets are achieved.
  • Assist with cost forecasting, reporting, and monthly commercial reviews.
  • Prepare cost/value reconciliations and support accurate financial reporting.
  • Review labour, plant, and material utilisation to identify efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.

Valuations & Payments

  • Support the preparation and submission of applications for payment and invoices.
  • Assist in maximising cash flow through effective commercial management.
  • Contribute to the preparation and agreement of final accounts.

Risk & Change Management

  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the administration and recovery of change, variations, and compensation events.
  • Maintain accurate records to support commercial entitlement.
  • Participate in value engineering initiatives and commercial reviews.

Contract Administration

  • Assist in administering main contracts and subcontracts.
  • Prepare contractual notices, instructions, and payment assessments.
  • Support the management of claims, disputes, and final account negotiations.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.

Project Controls & Completion

  • Contribute to project planning and programme reviews from a commercial perspective.
  • Support project close-out activities, including final reporting and document archiving.
  • Assist with progress measurement, remeasurement, and record-keeping activities.

Requirements

  • Experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor role within construction, infrastructure, utilities, rail, highways, or civil engineering projects.
  • Good understanding of contract administration and commercial management principles.
  • Experience with subcontract procurement, cost reporting, and change management.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of NEC contracts is advantageous.
