About The Role

At Balfour Beatty, we're shaping the future of infrastructure and construction. We are looking for a motivated and commercially aware Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, supporting the successful delivery of building and civil engineering projects.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing project costs, maximising value, and supporting the commercial performance of projects from inception through to completion. Working alongside experienced commercial professionals, you will help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.

This role is ideal for someone who is chartered or working towards professional membership with the RICS, ICES, or CIOB, and who is looking to develop their career within a leading infrastructure business.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing and controlling project costs in line with company procedures and governance requirements.
  • Measuring, recording, and valuing works in accordance with relevant rules and procedures.
  • Supporting the preparation of cost reconciliations, cost/value reporting, and commercial documentation.
  • Interpreting specifications and drawings to prepare measurements, estimates, bills of quantities, and schedules of rates.
  • Assisting with procurement activities, including gathering and managing supply chain information and documentation.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Supporting commercial negotiations and agreeing measurements and valuations with subcontractors.
  • Reviewing project programmes and planning commercial activities to support project delivery.
  • Using the company's ERP system to manage commercial information and reporting.
  • Contributing to the development of less experienced team members and supporting a collaborative team environment.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
