Our Client
Our client is a well-established construction company based in York, delivering complex and varied projects across the commercial, retail, heritage, and education sectors. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the commercial management of multiple projects from pre-construction through to final delivery.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving project success, ensuring strong financial control, and adding value across a range of high-profile schemes. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who enjoys working collaboratively within a high-performing team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the commercial management and financial performance of multiple construction projects
- Manage projects from pre-construction stages through to completion and final account
- Act as the commercial lead, ensuring effective cost control, reporting, and financial governance
- Work closely with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and external clients to support successful project delivery
- Monitor project costs, budgets, and commercial performance to maximize profitability
- Prepare and review project valuations, variations, cost reports, and financial forecasts
- Support contract administration and commercial decision-making throughout the project lifecycle
- Identify commercial risks and implement effective mitigation strategies
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, providing commercial guidance and support
- Contribute to a collaborative and high-performing team environment
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed budgets, programs, and company standards

Position Remuneration
- Salary of £60,000 - £70,000 depending on experience
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and birthday off
- Profit share scheme

Position Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
- Previous experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience Acting As a Commercial Lead Is Essential
- Degree-qualified with a minimum of 4 years' relevant experience, or non-degree qualified with at least 7 years' relevant experience
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent understanding of cost control and project financial management
- Highly organised with a methodical approach and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build relationships with clients and internal teams
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle due to regional travel requirements
