Senior Quantity Surveyor
Referment are working with a leading construction business to support the hiring of a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team, delivering large-scale civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the UK. We are currently seeking established senior professionals to support projects in:
- South East (Ipswich and Didcot)
- North West (Manchester)
- South West (Plymouth)
- West Midlands
- North East regions
This is a site-based role (5 days per week), offering full commercial ownership of complex, high-value projects, from early-stage procurement through to final account. A dedicated commercial leader with a proven track record in managing the end-to-end commercial lifecycle is required.
The Role
You will lead full pre- and post-contract commercial lifecycle activities, including:
- Developing and executing procurement strategies and cost planning
- Full contract value review (CVR) responsibility and financial reporting
- Managing subcontractor procurement, payments, and risk ownership
- Identifying and managing commercial variations and complex risks
- Supporting project delivery teams with detailed forecasting and cost control
- Senior-level liaison with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
- Mentoring and line management of junior commercial staff
- Producing final accounts, ensuring total financial accuracy across large-scale schemes

What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience operating at a Senior Quantity Surveyor level within the UK construction industry
- A strong background with a UK-based Tier 1 or Tier 2 Main Contractor (essential for alignment with UK commercial practices)
- Extensive experience in large-scale civil engineering, infrastructure, or complex engineering-led projects (not maintenance, fit-out, or small package works)
- Demonstrable ownership of end-to-end commercial activities, including cost planning and risk management
- Senior Quantity Surveyor (QS) focus, with clear accountability for commercial activities
- A track record of career stability and commitment within the construction sector
- Experience in line management or mentoring junior commercial staff (official preference)

Qualifications (One or More Required)
- HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent senior-level experience)
- Membership (or pursuing) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) (valued)
- BTEC / HNC / HND in Building Studies, Engineering, or Management
Additional Requirements
- Strong commercial awareness and a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to lead commercial functions independently and collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills and senior stakeholder management
- Willingness to commute to site-based locations within your designated region
