About the Role
Caddick Civil Engineering, a part of the Caddick Group, is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join our expanding team. This role is ideal for a candidate with experience managing pre- and post-contract commercial duties, especially in civil engineering projects such as infrastructure works (roads and sewers).
The role is office-based, though regular site visits are required. Our projects typically range from £3m to £20m.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will:
- Manage pre- and post-contract commercial activities.
- Maintain high health and safety standards, ensuring full compliance with company policies and strategies.
- Facilitate effective communication between site and office personnel regarding commercial, contract, and programme delivery of projects.
- Develop and settle tenders, including:
- Taking off quantities
- Addressing material and subcontract enquiries
- Pricing of works
- Manage commercial aspects of projects, such as:
- Change management and control
- Placing and managing subcontracts
- Valuations and Applications for Payment
- Forecasting
- Cost Value Reconciliations and performance monitoring
- Final Account settlement
- Support the Site Management Team in all commercial and contract matters.
- Adhere to professionalism, health and safety standards, organisational conduct, and quality of work.

Additionally, you’ll be responsible for:
- Measurement and take-offs
- Setting up pricing documents
- Preparing cost estimates
- Assessing project risks
- Preparing subcontractor and supplier enquiries
- Communicating with clients and stakeholders
- Conducting tender handover meetings with site teams

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Exceptional numeracy and proficiency in Microsoft packages.
- Experience and knowledge of estimating packages would be advantageous, though not mandatory.
- Knowledge of construction law and contractual terms.
- Familiarity with standard terms and conditions (NEC & JCT).
- A degree-level qualification or extensive experience within civil engineering contracting, either as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator (currently employed by a contractor or subcontractor).
- A thorough understanding of construction aspects, civil engineering sector, and relevant legislative requirements such as Health and Safety, NHBC requirements, and Building Regulations.
- Strong organisational skills, financial and commercial awareness.
- Ability to effectively manage time to meet deadlines.
