Quantity Surveyor – Civils Frameworks Division
Based within our civils frameworks division, this role delivers projects for Northumbrian Water Group (NWG), including:
- Planned rehabilitation work and capital projects (up to £5 million)
- 24/7 reactive emergency responses (trenchless/sewer repairs, manhole replacement, pipework rehabilitation)
About The Role
We are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a large and friendly team, ensuring commercial management of contracts in the Water Industry. Key responsibilities include financial control, valuation, cost management, and contractual compliance to support project delivery.
Location: Durham
Responsibilities

Contract administration for sub-contracts, managing:
- Progress meetings
- Delay evaluations
- Variations and day works
- Clean-up notices, damages, and waste
- Defects and relevant notices

Payment processes:
- Assessment and release of sub-contractor applications
- Issue of payment notifications
- Contra charges for cost management

Measurement & Valuations:
- Preparing interim valuations and final accounts
- Measuring quantities (onsite and from drawings where needed)

Variation & Risk Management:
- Timely evaluation of variations
- Weekly monitoring of cash flow and direct labour/plant payments (if required)

Cost Control & Reporting:
- Material cost monitoring
- Production of internal valuations, sub-contract liabilities, and cost reconciliations
- Monthly cost-to-completion forecasts (collaborating with Site Manager and the delivery team)

Project Transparency:
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Identifying, notifying, and SAVING (with Quantity Surveyor line manager) delays

Meeting Participation:
- Attending design review meetings and external progress reviews

Qualifications (Minimum)
- A relevant Degree (or equivalent)
- Water Industry experience, including:
- Water treatment (potable/wastewater)
- Storage & conveyance systems
- MEMICA knowledge
- ICA & SCADA familiarity
- Environmental impact & flood prevention

Proven ability working with:
- Water frameworks or project-specific sector expertise
- NEC Target Cost Contracts
- Design & Construct Schemes

Technical Skills:
- Full Microsoft Office proficiency
- Experience with extranet and electronic project management systems
- Understanding of project planning
