A Snapshot of Your Day
As the demand for energy sector infrastructure is rapidly increasing, we are looking for a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Contracts Manager to join our growing team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. In this role, you will be part of our financial and commercial team, working closely with project financial controllers and accountants to manage the costs and commercial aspects of our extensive portfolio of complex high voltage substation projects across the United Kingdom.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Support Project Managers and Commercial Project Managers in identifying, evaluating, and assessing risks and opportunities.
- Take ownership of and administer subcontracts on a day-to-day basis.
- Manage subcontract/supplier final account settlements.
- Ensure timely submission of contractual notifications.
- Provide updates on the financial status, including forecast positions of subcontractor and key supplier accounts.
- Attend project meetings with site, customer, and joint venture partner stakeholders.
- Manage project change and claims related to main contracts and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with the project team, providing contractual advice for successful project execution.
- Support the procurement department by advising on and drafting contractual terms for project subcontract work packages.
- Liaise with the legal team to review and evaluate subcontract terms aligned with main customer contracts.
- Identify and follow up on events relevant to claims and variations.
- Prepare claim and variation particulars, performing analyses to establish causation for relevant events.
- Pursue and defend claims, collating project records and documentation for satisfactory conclusions.
- Build positive relationships with customers, joint venture partners, and subcontractor teams.
- Develop and improve contract and claim management processes and strategies.

What You Bring
- Experience in quantity surveying, contract management, or commercial project management.
- Familiarity with various Construction and Engineering Forms of Contract, particularly the NEC Contract (knowledge of FIDIC and MF/1 is desirable).
- Experience with M&E and civil construction technologies is advantageous.
- Proven experience in negotiating subcontract terms and conditions.
- Background in project budgeting and financial management of risks, opportunities, and claims.
- Chartered Quantity Surveyor status (RICS/CICES) is advantageous.
- Understanding of contract law principles.
- A collaborative and team-oriented approach.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to share knowledge to enhance team capability.
About The Team
In this role, you’ll be part of our finance and commercial department reporting to the Commercial Head of Operations and Lead Commercial Contracts Manager working within dedicated project teams alongside our expert technical and operational staff with the combined goal of successfully delivering the project on time, on budget and to our high standards of quality and safety.
