Help Shape the UK’s Energy Future

Quantity Surveyor Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C

As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the CWA Wide Section.

What will you do?

The Quantity Surveyor will deliver comprehensive commercial administration and governance support across the ASTOC portfolio, managing approximately £200m per year of staff and professional services expenditure. The successful candidate will provide critical commercial, contract administration, and governance support to the ASTOC Commercial Lead and Managing/Senior Quantity Surveyor, ensuring robust financial controls and audit readiness across a complex services environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and administering Professional Services Contracts (PSCs), including contract mobilizations, amendments, extensions, and close-out activities
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records, documentation, and contractual information in accordance with governance requirements
  • Supporting compliance with delegated authority frameworks, commercial procedures, and governance controls
  • Coordinating Contract Request Forms (CRFs), approvals, and delegated authority processes
  • Assisting with IR35 compliance assessments and associated insurance activities
  • Administering commercial workflows within SAP and Unifier systems, ensuring data integrity and timely processing
  • Producing governance reports, management information, and commercial performance metrics
  • Supporting internal and external audit requirements and maintaining audit trails
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with Commercial, Finance, Delivery, and Functional teams
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and enhanced operational efficiency

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in commercial management and contract administration, combined with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. You will be capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously, demonstrating a proactive approach to governance compliance and risk management.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Understanding of commercial management principles and contract administration
  • Knowledge of governance, compliance, and audit requirements within major project environments
  • Awareness of delegated authority frameworks and approval processes
  • Understanding of financial controls and commercial reporting processes
  • Experience in a Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Administrator, or similar commercial role
  • Experience supporting contract administration and commercial governance activities
  • Experience operating within large-scale project, infrastructure, utilities, or construction environments
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience with ERP and workflow systems, such as SAP and Unifier
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to analyse information and identify inconsistencies or risks
  • Proven ability to work independently whilst contributing effectively within a team environment

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree qualification or studying towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Business Management, or related discipline
  • Working towards or holding membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CICES, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with IR35 compliance requirements
  • Experience within a major program or alliance environment
  • Experience with professional services contracts and staff augmentation arrangements
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and professional services frameworks
