Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor – Highways & Civil Engineering

Location: Bristol, North Somerset & Somerset (Site Based) Job Type: Permanent

An established and highly respected civil engineering contractor is seeking a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial success of highways and civil engineering projects across Bristol, North Somerset, and Somerset. Committed to delivering high-quality, safe, and sustainable infrastructure while fostering a collaborative culture and investing in their people.


The Role

This site-based commercial position requires a proactive professional to collaborate with operational teams, ensuring financial performance across multiple projects from procurement to final account settlement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Reporting & Forecasting:
    • Preparation and submission of monthly client applications.
    • Accurate site measurements and cash flow forecasting.

  • Change Management & Cost Control:

    • Management and pricing of compensation events and project changes.
    • Cost tracking via monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Procurement & Subcontract Administration:

    • Procurement of materials and subcontractor packages.
    • Ongoing administration and management of subcontractor accounts.
  • Strategic Support & Risk Mitigation:

    • Assisting in commercial reporting and project performance forecasting.
    • Collaborating with site teams to maximise project value and minimise commercial risk.

About You

We are looking for professionals with:

  • Minimum 4–5 years' experience in Quantity Surveying, specialising in highways or civil engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly compensation events.
  • Direct experience managing subcontractors, procurement processes, and cost reporting.
  • Strong commercial acumen, Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • A full UK driving licence, with a willingness to work on-site across the region.
