Quantity Surveyor
Quantity Surveyor – Bethell Construction (3 Positions Available)
Location: Greater Manchester Department: Bethell Construction
About the Role
We are seeking a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to deliver contractual and financial expertise across projects from pre-construction to completion.
Your role will revolve around:
- Maximising value while mitigating risks and maintaining cashflow
- Supporting strategic delivery and ensuring compliance with commercial processes
- Collaborating closely with commercial, operational, finance, and support teams
- Procurement management through effective supply chain communication and analysis
- Taking leadership in subcontract management, procurement, and implementation
- Mentoring trainee and assistant Quantity Surveyors, fostering high standards within the team
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Wellbeing
- Ensure full compliance with HSQE standards on-site and in the office
- Engage in hazard identification and risk management
- Monitor supply chain adherence to company and client safety expectations
- Promote a strong culture of health, safety, and wellbeing
Client & Commercial Management
- Build strong client and operational team relationships
- Provide accurate, timely commercial insights for decision-making
- Develop supply chain partnerships to secure best value
- Proactively manage client expectations and final account agreements

Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor graduates and junior team members
- Foster a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and respect
- Maintain effective communication with senior management on risks and progress
Commercial Excellence
- Adhere to approved commercial processes and procedures
- Manage cost reporting, subcontract procurement, and contract administration (pre- and post-contract)
- Collaborate with estimating, operational, and procurement teams
- Balance time management and competing priorities
Sustainability & Performance
- Optimise resource efficiency and cost management systems
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement through change control
- Contribute to budget development, procurement strategy, and commercial targets
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- CSCS accreditation (essential)
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or 10+ years’ relevant experience
- Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CICES, ICE) – preference given
- Strong financial and commercial management background
- Experience in civils, drainage, groundworks, concreting, and highways projects (project values up to £20m)
- Full UK driving licence
Skills & Knowledge
- Commercial acumen – ability to maximise value and manage cashflow
- Extensive knowledge of construction and highways infrastructure
- Proficiency in cost forecasting, reporting, and contract administration
- Familiarity with JCT, NEC, and ICE contract frameworks
- Understanding of insurance requirements (warranties, bonds, PCGs)
- Competency in Microsoft Office, including Project or Primavera
- Strong grasp of H&S practices and tender processes
- Ability to analyse, measure, and compare project data/drawings
- Outstanding negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Both verbal and written communication
- Knowledge of measurement standards (MCHW, CESMM4, SSM7)
