Senior Quantity Surveyor / Quantity Surveyor Oxford, UK Sector: Large-Scale Commercial Construction
Position Details Type: Full-Time | Permanent Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + Benefits
About the Role
Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to take the lead on high-value commercial construction projects? Join a well-established contractor renowned for delivering complex commercial developments. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in ensuring commercial success from pre-construction through to final accounts, collaborating closely with operational teams, clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.
Responsibilities
In this position, you’ll be responsible for:
- Leading or supporting the commercial delivery of large-scale commercial construction projects
- Managing subcontractor and supply chain accounts, from tendering through to final account reconciliation
- Ensuring project costs remain within approved budgets and are effectively controlled
- Preparing, submitting, and negotiating applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
- Producing accurate financial reports and presenting findings in regular commercial review meetings
- Supporting value engineering and design development to maximise project profitability and client value
- Identifying and managing commercial risk, with a strong focus on dispute avoidance
- Collaborating with site teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors to forge strong working relationships
- Mentoring Assistant Quantity Surveyors and guiding junior team members where applicable

Requirements & Qualifications
We’re seeking a detail-oriented, commercially savvy professional with:
- 3+ years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor in main contractor environments
- Experience taking a lead commercial role on large commercial construction projects
- In-depth knowledge of JCT contracts, with familiarity (or experience) using NEC contracts
- Comprehensive understanding of Design & Build and traditional procurement routes, including two-stage procurement and cost planning
- Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and commercial decision-making skills
- Outstanding communication, with the ability to build lasting relationships with stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including experience with commercial reporting software (e.g., COINS) considered advantageous
- A degree in Quantity Surveying (or related discipline) is essential
- MRICS, MCIOB, or equivalent professional membership is highly desirable
