Quantum Motion, London
About The Role and Team
Quantum Motion is a fast-growing quantum computing scale-up based in London, founded by internationally renowned researchers from UCL and Oxford University with over 40 years’ experience in developing qubits and quantum computing architectures. By combining state-of-the-art cryogenic facilities and an interdisciplinary team of over 100+, we are pioneering quantum processors based on industrial-grade silicon chips, with the potential to revolutionise fields such as:
- Materials modelling
- Medicine
- Artificial intelligence
Awarded as one of the "Top 100 Startups worth watching" in EE Times (2021 and 2022), we have previously been featured in The Telegraph, BBC, and The New Statesman. Our leadership includes a chairman who co-founded Cadence and Synopsys—two top firms in Electronic Design Automation—while our team is backed by top-tier investors and our Series C funding of $160 million.
Our collaborative, hands-on culture draws together quantum engineers, IC engineers, quantum theoreticians, and software engineers, blending cutting-edge research & development (R&D) with the demands of real-world quantum computing scale-up. Open to those who thrive in ambitious, multi-disciplinary environments, our primary hub is in Islington, London, with teams also based in Oxford, San Sebastián, and Sydney.
The Role
You will join the Cryogenic Engineering & Lab Development team, reporting to the Staff Cryogenic Engineer, to ensure the smooth operation of UK facilities overseeing 7+ cryogenic fridges, while managing off-site lab deployments and installations.
This position is ideal for a self-driven technical specialist who excels in problem-solving and hands-on laboratory work. You will lead electronics and mechanical assembly, manage critical workflows, and mentor apprentices, contributing to building a robust technical team in this fast-growing scale-up.
This is a rare earlyemplee opportunity at a company shaping the future of quantum tech—complete with unparalleled growth potential and the chance to make a lasting impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
